For reasons unknown, our web site has been the target of a random email spam Joe Job. We believe that is is because of our hard stance against spam in our forums. We have been very diligent at banning spammers quickly, and preventing them from completing the registration process in the first place.

joe job: n., vt.
* A spam run forged to appear as though it came from an innocent party, who is then generally flooded by the bounces; or, the act of performing such a run. The original incident is described here.

This is a malicious attempt to make gaownersclub.com appear to be some kind of spammer, when in fact, gaownersclub.com is the largest online Grand Am discussion forum and website. We work hard to protect our members from spam.

If you have received an email spam that looks to have originated from gaownersclub.com, please forward that email (with complete headers) to abuse@gaownersclub.com so that we may track down the actual spammers. With the advent of dnsBLs like SPEWS and peoples' personal plonk lists, a successful Joe-Job can really hurt; so please help gaownersclub.com to pass along complaints to the correct ISP by forwarding us as many examples of this nasty Joe Job as possible. Thanks!

Thanks for the warning. Not everyone got spammed though, yet that is. I haven't seen anything my way!

Thanks guys. The notice was more for the public, as the spam was not targeted at our membership, but rather random addresses from around the world. The notice is to let people know that it wasn't us that spammed them. The spam is not originating from our server. A quick check of the server IP address in the header will confirm that. :)

SPF -- didn't think of it earlier but this might help with these situations in the future.
