After reading through several fog light posts on the forum, I've decided these would be an excellent replacement for the dim fog lights that come factory on my '04 SE1.

My understanding from reading other posts is that I would remove the factory fogs from the factory brackets and re-use the factory brackets for the Hellas. Is this correct?

And this may be a stupid question... but I'd like to wire up the angel eye portion of the Hella light to be independent of the main bulb. PFYC says it's easy to do it with a switch, but I'd like to have it be more automatic than that. I'd like to have them on whenever the car is on.

What's the easiest way to accomplish this? Is there an ignition-switched wire under the hood, or would I have to run the wire inside the car?

I think ive had to much coffee this morning.
Not sure what you mean by independant. They already are.

Yeah you have to re-use the brackets. For the angel eye lights I would wire them up to the factory fog wires and the fog lights wire them up to a switch

They have instructions on PFYC from gagt.com.
The only thing i did different was used a different switch than what came with it and hooked up a little LED to it so i know when they are on or off.

The Hella Angel Eye lights are actually driving lights and should be used with the high beams. They have a clear lens. Many people have wired them to the fog light circuit so they come on with the low beams.

The "Angel Eye" portion can be on a separate switch. You can wire them into a circuit that is energized when the ignition is on. They only draw a few milli-amps so I don't think it matters much. You could have them wired to the parking lights so they only come on when the lights are on.

Here's a picture of modified stock brackets.

You can see that I filed on the leg of the lights to reduce the spread on the stock bracket legs.

Here's how I cut out the back to gain clearance.

Regarding the bold part of the quote - are you saying that the people who wire them up to the low beam circuit are doing it incorrectly?

What would be the downside to wiring the lights the way PFYC says to?

Also, when you say the lights are driving lights, does that mean they'll be useless for cutting through fog? Because my main goal from a functional standpoint is to find something less useless than the factory fogs. I used to have a Toyota Camry, and the fog lights on that were bright enough that I could literally turn off my headlights and drive with just the fogs, which greatly increased my sight distance on foggy nights, and I was hoping to get the same result from the Hellas.

My current idea, given the results I want, is this (along with my questions about the procedure)

Wire the Angel Eyes up using a relay on the parking light circuit
- Q1: Would the relay be necessary, or do the angel eyes draw little enough power that they wouldn't affect the operation of the parking lights?
- Q2: This would result in the angel eyes being on any time the DRLs are off, correct?

Use the factory fog light switch as the power switch for the relays that turn on the main lamps.
- Q1: Is the factory fog switch a standard 3 pin switch? Reason I ask is because I know I'd need a constant +12V line, ground, and load to be able to have the switch kick in the relay.
- Q2: How difficult would this be?
- Q3: If I'm not mistaken, this would make it so that ANY time the switch is on, the lights are on, and ANY time the switch is off, the lights are off, correct?
- Q4: How could I make it so that the switch is only operational when the car is on? Would I just have to find an ignition-switched +12 line and wire it into a relay between the constant +12 and the +12 pin on the switch, or would this be ridiculously harder than it's worth?

Sorry about the long post... I've only owned the Grand Am for a year so I don't know everything about its electrical system yet... plus things are a little less straightforward than they were in my Camry.

Me and my dad wired the Angel Eyes to the day-time running lights so they are on whenever the lights are on. The foglight uses the factory switch so i didnt need to cut any holes in my interior. The entire process added maybe 30-45 minutes.

Little off track but not off topic, but is it easy to change the color of the LED in the angel eye part? If I got angel eyes I'd rather have them be demon eyes, with red instead of the blue, to better match the rest of the car. I'm not that gifted to be able to make my own very well, so I'd rather buy the hella ones and change it.

The white LED's don't last long. I think they increase the light output by using a smaller resistor.

On the first picture, you can see a gray plug. Pry the plug out and replace the two LED's in there.

It's a little trickey, you have to make a 90* bend in the legs and maybe file some of the lens off to make them fit in the well.

Test them before you reinstall. I damaged a couple of LED's when I put purple ones in.

mine from pfyc.com came with a switch to have either the led's on, nothing on, or the driving light on...

i used the factory brackets.

Actually IIRC Fog lights main purpuse is not to light up the entire road infront of you, but a more broad short beam aimed fairly low. Fog lights are usually a yellow/gold color which does not reflect off fog and rain as much as white/blue beam lights. Another reason for foglights is not only so you can see in the "fog" better but so others can see you, as the light sits lower to the ground so then has a greater chance of sitting below the fog.

So Driving lights are a longer narrower beam that lights up the road further ahead of you. Usually driving lights emit a white/blue color. Pretty well a smaller version of "overheads" like you see on roll bars of trucks, or the large 6-9" driving lights founf on the front bumper and or bullbar of some trucks. A example of driving lights here (http://www.tufflights.com/). These are the same driving lights i have on my work truck.

i dont know if this question was answered yet, but here is a way that you can wire up the optilux lights to be completely like your stocks.

you will need to use some of the wires from the kit. though there are (2) black wires that have a double connector on the end of them. cut that wire and cut into your stock fog light wiring and attach that wire so that each ground on both sides of the car are the double connectors. youll see what i mean by a double connector. then take the yellow wire from the angel eye and run a wire up to the 194 bulb that does nothing in your headlight. then take the white wire from the fog light and attach it to the positive wire form the fog lights. then take the 2 grounds and wire them into the double connector. this will allow the angel eye to only come on when the driving lights are on. youlll never forget to turn them off. as well as allowing you to use the fog lights in the same way you use your stocks....If you have any questions, PM me and ill walk ya through it...

I've wanted to get these for awhile now.

I disabled my DRL's and I drive around with my Fogs and Parking lights on, and It's be cool If I could get these and Just have the Parking lights and the Angel Eye Fogs on...and when it gets dark and the Headlights turn on, the Entire Foglight turns on too.

But every thread (especially an old one that Coupe posted) makes the install seem like a PITA
