So yeah, coming home from work last night, I was doing about 50 or so, not trying anything crazy, and out of nowhere, a deer came off the hill, I locked em' up and swerved, but there was no missing it... Got him pretty good, broke 3 of his legs. The only positive side of everything is the fact that it didn't get any of the internals, just a bunch of cosmetic work. Withotu further ado, the pictures, warning this may make some of you cry, it surely didn't make me too happy.

Yea, sucks don't it!! Been there too bud. Only with the weight of the deer on my hood the car stopped on a dime and got rear-ended by my BROTHER!!!!!

Now that REALLY SUCKED!!

Once you get it all fixed up you'll be just fine. But I bet it scared the crap outta' you!!

Wow, that sucks man. Yeah, didn't impress me too much, that's for damn sure. I'm just stressing because I have no car and I need to go to work today and then back to college tomorrow, and working again on Tuesday and Thursday. Hopefully the insurance company will cover it, in Vermont they understand the whole, deer and car stuff and you usually can get away without a hike in your insurance.

I love deer, as long as it is on a plate, and not a grill.........:D
Sorry about your car

Wish I hadn't hit him as hard, I was craving venison. Instead we had to toss him over a bank somewhere. We were told by the Game Warden to, "toss him somewhere where the coyotes will get him." Great freakin' game warden. Might convince my parents to get me a rental car for the time I don't have mine and have it be my Christmas present, since I need a car.

The trick with deer is that you really dont want to slow down. Whenever you slow down they think that you arent going to be a harm to them so they dont move. Ive found out that if you either turn on and off your lights or go from brights to lows that they usually move before you get there. Just a little tip I learned from living in the whitetail deer capital of the US.

Sounds like you couldnt miss this one though. Itll be fixed and youll have a new hood (shall I say SC/T) and new front bumper so there ya go. Sucks because I KNOW it scared the shit out of you.

Also now is a good time to get some HIDs. There is a company that makes them plug and play with both hi and low beams. http://www.pilothid.com/9007hilow.html

Sucks about your car, but I have seen worse so consider yourself lucky. This kid Craig that use to post on here hit a deer served into a ditch and flipped his car over. I've also seen cars that hit deers and you couldnt tell what kinda car it was anymore. Hood bumper and lights you'll be fine

Maybe next time try hitting the gas, it seems like every time I'm in my truck and one crosses in front of me, I hit the gas (I've been craving venison too) the bastards run off the road. Now if I'm in the car, I hit the brakes (cuz I dont wanna hurt it) the bastards stand there and look at ya like youre stupid.

bballer, I actually already have some Silverstar bulbs that I hadn't put in yet, so I'm just going have them drop them in for me while I'm there. Also, for the hood and bumper stuff, I might work with the guys that are going to fix it, (mom's an insurance agent, she's really close with them) about getting a Ram Air Hood or something, but I doubt I'll get it with it being covered by my insurance. If everything goes as planned, I'll only have to pay $100 for the deductible. I'm hopefully getting a rental tomorrow, I'd like a nice Grand Am to drive around with, but I'm going with Mr. El Cheapo, in other words, the cheapest thing they got. I'm hoping to have it finished in a week or two if I'm lucky.

I'm looking at the positives of everything. One, I'm sitting here typing my life away without a single injury (little shook up, I'm not big on animal slaying). Secondly, it's cosmetic, well, at least I'm almost positive it's cosmetic, there might be something else wrong, but I doubt it, everything looks intact. Thirdly, I get the crinkle in my quarter panel fixed at no cost to me :D So I mean, yeah it sucks, but hell, it could have been a lot worse.

Finally, sorry Katie I haven't been too active lately, been busy with school and everything. Once the car gets fixed, I'll do my best to get on more.

Trick with avoiding deer is to scan the sides of the road as well as the road itself. Alot of people get tunnel vision when driving, and focus on the roadway itself instead of both it and the area off to the sides. I've avoided deer with plenty of room because I would catch a small glint of the eye or a flick of the tail before actually seeing the whole deer.

Those deer warning devices? According to State Farm, they don't do jack.

Are you serious? You're doing 50 in a narrow road with a high steep grade on your left. I scan the road quite well, and usually see most everything, at this point, there was no seeing anything. He practically tumbled off the slope and into my lane. There was no stopping, no seeing, NOTHING.

Ouch!! Man that hurts. I almost hit a moose while traveling in Newfoundland last summer, had to lock up the brakes pretty hard but the damn thing didn't even bat an eye as he stood in the middle of the road. Saw about another 30 of them before reaching my destination that evening. They do a lot more damage than a deer.

Yeah they do, they go straight through the windshield. That's never healthy. I'm glad my car's not totally screwed or anything, just cosmetic.

Looks like you may have some inner structure damage, but the keyword here is may!

FusionDreams

I'm having it checked today to make out for sure. As of right now, I'm almost certain internally I'm all set. I'll know more by later tonight or tomorrow.

So I just got the word that everything is going to cost approximately $4000. Glad my insurance is covering it, ha. Going to take at least two weeks too, and looks like I'm driving a Kia around until then. God, I'm going to need to drive at night so no one knows who I am in that thing.

i feel ya man. Last year at about this same time of year, i hit 2 deer in less than 1 week. When I say deer, I mean deer, i hit a 10 point buck in my little plymouth neon and it totaled it out. about a week later i was driving home from my girlfriends house in my grand am that i just got the day before, and a 12 point buck jumped out and i nailed it. aboth of the deer died, which sucks, but things happen. so it goes to show you that it can happen to anyone, so keep your eyes open!

damn..and i thought bugs and mosquitos pist us all off while driving down the interstate...seems like deer are a highly potential threat. Stupid Bambi should have stayed in the woods.

Sorry to see your car like that. Put some pics up once you get it back..and a KIA..hey...better "A" car than no car.

Hehe, hear ya there. I always eye out for deer and I've still managed to hit 6 or so since I was 16. Two of em I hit at once, and one actually hit me and caved in my passenger door. All were in a truck though, wouldn't want to hit one with a car for sure.

Adam, where abouts were you when you hit it fellow Vermonter? I passed three waiting on the side of the road in Richmond the other day, thought for sure they were going to jump in front of me.

I've hit a deer before but nothing really came out of it, deer was ok.. but my friend wasn't so lucky, she hit one going around 45 miles too, and it went through her windshield.. she didn't get hurt but her Mustang was a write off.. so was the deer.. hope your Christmas turns out better for you!

My Uncle hit a deer last night in TX. He has a truck that has a nice grill guard and they think they will total the truck. Deer do insane amounts of damage.
