I bought my 1999 Grand Am SE1 at night and didn't bother to ask about the missing front license plate cover; now it really bugs me.
Anyone have a part number? One to sell? Other suggestions?
Cheers,
Sustainblue
Check with a GM dealership, they cost about $50 and then have to be primed and painted to match your car. Sometimes you'll find them on ebay. Mine didn't have one either when I bought the car but about a month or so later I went back to the dealership and talked my salesman into taking one off another GA out on the lot.
You could also check salvage yards but I wouldn't hold my breath on that one.

Thanks mates, bidding on one on e-bay. If that fails I'll check the local junk yards, if that fails, I buy it off gmparts website.

Are they able to slip into place when there is a license plate in place or would it have to slightly altered? I was thinking of getting one from my dealer but would want it to be able to snap over the plate so it's faster to make the transition.

must be nice to live in a state where you dont need the front plate so you can use the nice front cover. My ghetto ass state of illinois requires a front plate. Alot of states dont require it so I dont know why illinois has a boner for front plates (probably just another way to waste taxpayers dollars, this is the one of most scandalous high tax rate states). Glad I live near iowa so I can jump the boarder to get stuff at lower sales tax rates. I tried many times to go without a front plate and I always get pulled over. Anyways enough ranting about my worhtless state. Happy hunting on the front plate cover, wish I could have have one.

i'm amazed that state taxes its citizens, what with all the revenue you get from your tollbooths! costs me $3 just to cross the border!
anyway, WI way screwed too, we're somewhere between 3rd and 8th for tax rates, but 16th for personal income. go figure.
anyway, back on the subject, i gotta have front plates, but can i move them someplace else other than that ugly off-center bracket?

Not sure about laws reguarding it, but you might be able to get away with suction cupping it to the winshield. Some people do that.

nope, some power trippin cop will stop you for that as well, we have murders and drug deals and kidnappings and rapes all over this state and yet they want to stop good citizens over a petty thing like a front license plate.

yeah, the tollway is a joke. I88 has both the toll and the non-toll part. The toll part is extremely crappy interstate while the non toll part of 88 is smooth. I dont get it.

Id actually look up the law regarding the front license plate. Some states say that all it has to be is in a foward facing position and some say it has to be affixed to the bumper. Check it out.

You're one of the few lucky ones. I've been harassed so many times about it that I finally caved in and put it on. Maybe where you're at the cops are actually doing something constructive like busting drug dealers and solving murders while the cops in my area just eat donuts, jack off, and mess with good citizens.

One of the platoon sergeants in my guard unit is an Illinois State Trooper and I asked him about it and he said it has to be properly mounted to the fromt bumper. Kinda nice knowing a cop so you can get info on what you can and cant do and what cops are likely to go after.

I live in the Metro St-Louis area on the Illinois side of the border, right next to happy Il. State Police District #18 HQ , and Ive never been stopped for no front plate.
Id wager its because by the time the cop looks behind me to see if Im from Missouri or Illinois, ive already passed him( or her) under the posted speed limit:lol:
I guess this means if you live inland youre screwed , though.

Some of those laws state that its at the officers discretion as to what is actually legal. You take in the actual law to court and a lot of the time the judge will drop it.
Still its best to know what the cops will actually do in your area. lol

Generally, from what I've noticed, some officers can be quite ignorant on the language of certain ordinances and laws. For example, brake light covers in PA are not illegal as long as you can see the lights through it, but some officers around here have been known to pull people over for having them.
