OK, please someone, what is the best way to fix winter rock chips? I was told you need 3 items: primer, color, clear coat adn all are availabel in little tubes. But it is just a little chip (1/2 cm at the most).

How do I make it blend and not look like crap?

... I would simply go to the Ford Dealer and pick-up a little bottle of "touch-up paint" ... it contains a small brush and the rest is history ... another option is to contact a company like "Dent Master" or "Paint Master" or whatever as they specialize in filling in all the rock chips on automobiles ... typically, they'll go every chip on a car for about $100.00 CDN (or so I have been told) :)

Do you just brush it on or do you need to prep the car with some other compound?

Here are a couple more sites with instructions and results: http://www.impalahq.com/ (look in How To section); http://www.celicagarage.citymax.com/page/page/382306.htm.

You can also try the Mothers paint chip repair kit.

... no, just just brush it on ... simply put, it looks and acts like finger nail polish with respect to the bottle format and style of brush.

anyone know how well this works. I'm am thinking about trying it. My car has accumulated quite a few dings and touch up paint by itself doesn't look too great.

Me too, me too!!! I just touched up a bunch of dings on my hood & front, and they don't look as bad now, but I still got little blobs...

Langka is excellent stuff. You just have to take your time when repairing a chip, prep the area well, and be very meticulous. If you rub too hard, you can take off too much of the touch up paint. Gentle rubbing across the blob of touch up taking off a little at a time works best. Just make sure you use something like old t-shirt material instead of material that's nappy--like a towel. Check out the celicagarage link and look at the after pic. That's how good a repair can turn out--and that was with silver paint. I don't know how well a repair would turn out on older paint, but it probably won't look as bad as a chip.

There is one thing I don't like about this product: It STINKS like you wouldn't believe. But you get used to the smell after a while, and it easily washes from your fingers.

Are there any alternatives to this Langka stuff? It seems like they kinda have a monopoly in this market so they can charge whatever they want... :(

The only other one I know of is Mothers Paint Chip Repair kit. It uses the same technology as Langka. Costs the same for a 2 oz. bottle--$19.99.

I mix my own touch up & apply it to the chip w/ a detail brush. After it cures, I carefully wetsand the paint blob w/ 600 grit, followed by 1,200 grit, then rub with heavy duty compound & follow up w/ machine glaze. You have to look like a hawk to tell there was ever a chip there. It's the best way to go but if you're not used to doing it & wish to try it may I suggest you do one or two on an inconspicious area. Like maybe your rocker panel, that way if it's not something you can get the hang of atleast it's down where it'll never be noticed. ~ Note: alot of metailics will look a shade dark because the metal flakes in the paint pool together, there's nothing that can be done when applying it w/ a brush.

I agree...wet sand after your done. you wont even be able to tell there was a chip there. just make sure you have enough paint built up to be able to sand it flush.
