I'm staying at the Rodd just up the street, .6 of a KM, have never stayed there but an associate has, says it's not to bad. $75 a night.
Any one else ever stay there?

We meet up on Saturday Morning @ McDonalds, and play it by ear from there. Of course you'd probably want to arrive on Friday night with that long of a drive. There are tons of hotels in Moncton. The Country Inn & Suites isn't bad, we've stayed there before. Most of us will be staying at the Delta. Again, not a bad spot. I can get you more hotel info if you need it. :)
Ya...pass the hotle info an the Mcdonalds location over...I'm gonna talk to the woman and see what she thinks. She says she may want to come aswell.

Which website? The Delta?
slowbird
04-03-2007, 11:37 AM
Yea...he sent me the Delta link.
Is that where you are all staying? Good in-expensive hotel?
Looks purty. Can't spend too much on accomodations since GAS will be taking priority in funds.
I hope I can make it...it'd be fun meeting all you guys.
sunrunner_pei
04-03-2007, 12:10 PM
I think most of us that are staying the night will be staying at the Delta. No matter where you stay though, Moncton isn't a huge city. You won't be far away. :)
Gas will be killer though, especially if you drive with a lead foot. And the roads through Quebec aren't great if memory serves me correctly. It's been 6 years since I've driven to Toronto. :)

I'm guessing if I stick to the highways and don't have to stop and accelerate very much I should make good time/fuel economy.
Maybe even get around 500kms/tank. Making it 3 tanks per way.
I checked online and the Delta says it's booked. I check a Best Western and they want almost $300 for the 2 nights.
Any other suggestions?

JMILLS
04-09-2007, 02:50 PM
Ok, so I just loaded Canada into my GPS and set a route to the hotel, for some reason it seems to be insisting that I take 95 to Houlton for the border crossing, but I have always taken the Airline Rd to Clais/St Stephens for the crossing?
Input from those international traveler's in our group?
Jchiasson
04-09-2007, 02:58 PM
You probably have your options set to stick to Interstates. or the likes.
Jchiasson
04-09-2007, 03:03 PM
Houlton to Delta: 291KM in 2 hours 45 minutes
Calais to Delta : 268KM in 2 hours 44 minutes
This using Streetds and Trips 2006
JMILLS
04-09-2007, 03:13 PM
Yep, checked a couple of routes on my computer and even though every site tells me to go to houlton it looks like calais is 2 mins shorter and 38 miles less.
TheTrader
04-09-2007, 03:42 PM
the thing with the airline road is its windy & non-highway ish for the most part, but the I-95 is good if you just wana set it on cruise and fly all the way through... they highway down from Houlton is also a very nice highway the whole way, where as the road from Calais up is not as nice....
so, depends if your in the mood to actually do some driving, or in the mood to set the cruise, throw on a good CD and just relax for the most part :)
02G-Dam
04-09-2007, 03:45 PM
I prefer the Airline and Calais myself.. We've always travelled those roads for Drag Racing in the states... etc... But Dans right... the Houlton way down is nice too.. I prefer the Airline... the drive from the airline up is beautiful.. except for the dives on the sides of the roads.. HAHAHA.. Guess I just contradicted myself huh?
JMILLS
04-09-2007, 03:51 PM
I have never personally driven the Houlton way, ridden as a kid but don't remember much. I prefer backroads/twisties more then highway so I think I will take my normal route.
02G-Dam
04-09-2007, 03:52 PM
IM the same way!!! I get bored on straight away highway.. I drove mom and Dad to Bangor Wednesday and had a blast on the highway but watch it cause there is one BITCH of a Frost Heave in the middle of one of the turns!!!
02G-Dam
04-09-2007, 03:56 PM
i meant airline not highway

Thats because there's nothing up there to remember, Jason. I go both ways to mix things up, on the way back from your place in Sept Karen & I went back I-95. The time is about the same, there's just nothing to see on I-95. Then again, there's not much to see on the northern 1/3 of the Airline road either.
2001GAGT
04-09-2007, 07:12 PM
Another reason it might be wanting you to go that way Jason is because there is only one part that is not 4 lane, and it only take you a max of 10min to go over. It is between the US border and the Trans Canada. It is under constrution and (I think) should be 4 lane by the end of this year.
JMILLS
04-09-2007, 07:15 PM
Well that's true, but considering the scary form of humans that live up past the border in that neck of the woods I feel much safer on the airline road where I won't see anyone!

04-09-2007, 07:22 PM

JMILLS

Well, I should be hitting the road about 7:30-8:00AM EST this morning, stopping off for lunch and such. Should be up there sometime this afternoon. Unfortunetly I won't have a cell phone after I cross the border because my company offers no international plans :(
I have no idea on a meeting time for Saturday, I am just a follower  Anyone?
Throw your suitcase in the back,
Done gassed up the Pontiac,
Blastin' out to Johnny Cash, headin' for the highway,
Baby we ain't ever comin' back.

Thanks to everyone that made it out. It was really great to see some new faces. A special thanks to Dan & Trina for the accommodations & gourmet food on Friday night. And of course to Greg for the tire delivery. :) It's a shame you couldn't stick around, bud. You would've had a ball at MX Carting!!!!

If I'm not mistaken...My cousin had two cars at that show.
One was an orange VW rabbit, which won best paint. (I think)
And.. he had his Legends race car. Looks like this, with a much better paint job.
