well i have posted a msg a little ways back, about a little prob i was having with my car, it was backfiring and spitting at around 3000Rpm not all the time but some times when i pushed it, well now i have changed the coils, changed the ECM(dealer told me it was it), now a few $$ wasted the car is worse then it was before. Now i am getting a code 42(bypass or ingition timing or something), well what is going on now is when i start the car it backfires and spits, just like if the timing is off, but when i am driving it is ok till i hit around that 3000 Rpm mark again(happens lots when i have it on cruise) just would like to know if anybody has any clue what is going on
Thanks in advance

it your timming its off so that is why it only happens at about the rpm. Have someone check it for you.

2.3 timing is computer controlled.
You replaced the coils, what did the housing they live in look like.
If you saw dust or lines in the housing, that could be causing the problem.
The crank censor may be going bad or the wire may be loose. The crank censor sends a signal to the ECM to tell it when to send spark to the plugs.
If the censor is bad or a wire is loose the ECM may be getting the wrong info, making the car run bad or as if it is out of time.

yes its computer controled but if the cams are not set correct it throughs the timming off. Also it takes just alittle to mess up the timming and the chain can get lose i had that happen to me. So I would once again say check the timming.

well i have been hearing a little noise coming from the timing cover so i guess my best bet would be to rip it open and see what is going on

Black95Ho may have a point, it may have skipped a tooth. That would cause your problems.

there is two one that has two sets of teeth and one that has one set of teeth. I think the older quads had two sets. Mine only has the one set and is a later year quad (95) also make sure is for the DOHC not the SOHC
