Hey everyone,

I'm going to be in need of some new summer tires, as my factory Goodyear Eagle RS-As are finally at the end of their tread life. I am open to suggestions, but I have my eye on the BF Goodrich G-Force Sport in 225/50R16.
I don't need all-seasons, as I have dedicated winter tires.
Price is a primary concern
Tread wear is important
I want a tire that's quiet
Has to be good in the wet
Has to handle well
The G-Force Sport seems to excel in all these areas, and I'm hooping someone here has used them and can give their thoughts. All the reviews I have read online were positive.

Thanks Ray! Those look interesting too! Like the look of the tread pattern, and the treadwear rating is better than the BFG's.

Ive got these on the GA and my god they are amazing. Sure they are a little pricey but if you only use these for the summer they should last a good three years up there. Also got to look around online to find a site that has the size youll want.

A little too pricey for me right now. I need new winters before next year too, and just had to buy a set of winter tires for the Vibe.

Yeah, it's frustrating and fun all at the same time. Right now I'm still leaning towards the G-force sport or the General tires Ray posted.

Can you get them in 225/50R16? They don't list that size on TireRack.

Well Shawn Ive found them at Sears near me in 18's for $157 US. You just got to shop around a little bit. Other places wanted almost $200 a tire.

That's still considerably more than the other tires I'm looking at. :(

Traction T/As are not as good as the G-Force Sport from what I know. Anything with the G-Force name is B.F.'s performance line. I'd suggest going with the G-Force T/A KDW but since those are more money than the G-Force Sport, I'd say maybe just stick to your original plan.

I've had G-Force T/A KDW on my summer rims for around 5 years I think and had it not been for an alignment problem the tyres would still be good for another year or two. Actually 3 of the tyres are still good, it's just one that got worn excessively due to the aforementioned problem. So if the treadwear on the Sports is as good or better than the KDWs then you're in business there for a long lasting tyre. Keep in mind of course that most summer-only tyres don't last as long as many "high end" all-seasons.

The KDW are absolutely awesome tyres though. Never really tested out the G-Force Sport (though I think the GTIs at work might have those on them?), but I've heard good things about them.

I've had three different sets of B.F. Goodrich tyres on my car (the original Touring T/As, Motomaster Nordic IceTracks which are rebranded Ice Slaloms, and the G-Force T/A KDWs) and I really don't have a complaint to say about any of them given the class of tyre each is in. The only little thing I'd note is that the KDW tyres aren't the greatest in the wet. I'm not sure how the Sports are in that regard. The KDWs aren't "bad" in the wet (they're actually quite good compared to many other tyres) it's just that given their otherwise amazing dry performance, their wet performance isn't as good as some other high-perf. summer tyres (like the Eagle F1 GS-D3, for example).

Interestingly, though I've only had BFG on the car before, I'm now going all Goodyear now because my winter tyres are now MM Goodyear Nordics (which I do have a complaint about, lol) and my next set of summer tyres will be Eagle F1 GS D3s...

Anyway no matter which way you go pretty much any decent tyre will be better than the ever-underacheiving Eagle RS-A; furthermore pretty much any summer-only tyre is going to be night/day with an all-season as well. At least you have lots of time to decide. Winter just started, LOL.

How much are you looking to spend though?

~$80 US each would be nice. Remember that's about $125 each CDN.

Hmmm thats kind of a tough budget honestly.

I recently had the HRi which is the cheaper version and they preformed pretty well if you asked me.

Thanks! It's not so tough, I already have 3 tires in mind that fit. :)

Shawn,

My G-Forsce's are pretty much low profile. The dealer was pushing Toyo Proxies and said I wouldn't get over 30k off them. I have 26K on them and they still look good. I paid 125 per tire for mine. I would figure under 100 for the size your're looking for.

As far as handling, dry pavement they are exellent. Wet pavement.... be careful.

Shawn, you got the G-Forces yet? Ive been considering these guys as well since my fronts need replacing soon, and the cheaper the tire, the better. I corded my Hankook rs2 z212s finally, and lets just say I dont wanna spend close to 300$ for 2 tires again.

If you do end up getting the g-force, tell me what you think of them. Im considering them or Kumho Ecstas in 205/55/R16

I've heard mixed reviews about Bridgestone Potenza G009's, but I've gotta say, I like them. It's a little more than you want to spend at $102 U.S. (that's the price for the tire size you indicated), and they're all-season, but they look and perform good, and I think they wear pretty well, with around 8 months of wear on them (7 1/2 of those months have 1000 miles each) there's still plenty of tread left.
