how long can a car be primed and still have the paint stick to it?

AFAIK, a very long time. Regardless though, the primer should be cleaned and lightly sanded before applying paint.

can the molding on the doors and bumpers be sanded down and primed also?

yep it can... just be sure to use a different primer that is made for plastic... normal primer doesint stick that well.

Urethane primer is the way to go. it remains flexible. Stay away from laquers & enamels, they're yesterdays' news.
