and bought a new sub and amp for the grand am. i always said that i was going to replace the 18" and 1200 watts rms with a 15 L7 and a bd1000 (or whatever current model # it is at the time). well i ran into a problem...the huge fosgate amp wouldnt fit on the amp rack without redoing it or spending even more money to change up the whole setup. so i just said screw it, i want to spend my money on a nice home theater setup more than i do a car audio setup. so i downgraded to a 15 L5 and a T3002 (pretty sure that's the model #). it's rated at 700 watts rms at 2 ohm, which is what it's getting. and the L5 is rated at 750 rms, so i felt it was a pretty good match....and the best part of all, i actually got the stuff for HALF the price of the bigger stuff.

they offered to cut me a new face plate for the box (told them i'd provide the MDF) and hook everything up for $50. but i declined and said it'd give me something to do that afternoon.

so i get everything home, move the wires for the amp and hook the amp up. move to the box and go to town on it. turn the car on and the fuses pop on the amp :???: change the fuses and it MELTS the metal prongs on the fuses.

now i'm like wtf?? the amp had already came on, i saw the power light. i take the amp back off the rack, replace the fuses once again and check all my connections....everything is good, so i plug the amp up once again and i hear a nice POP. now i'm getting pissed wondering what the HELL is going on. pull the fuses and they're not blown....hmmm. so at this point i'm already pissed and just throw my hands up and say i'll just give them $50 to figure it out.

i take it to them and tell them what happened. the plug it in their board and it powers up fine and even powers some subs. so now i'm REALLY scratching my head. but they put it in the car and it does the SAME thing to them. so i kinda wipe off my brow, i thought i'd lost my 12v touch or something. so something was just screwy with the amp from the factory.

me and the manager are always giving each other a hard time and he blamed it on original installation attempts, and i told him he was running a shady business.........all with customers in the store, but they were laughing at us. im sure they could tell we were joking.

but they didn't have an extra model in stock, they had one but it was due for installation in a couple days, so i understood that. so they gave me a loaner amp (which they dont do for just anyone). and wow....sounds like it's just pissing the sub off more than powering it lol. but hey, it's something that took off the floor. i could have been stuck with nothing. i did get to hear the good amp power the sub for a couple minutes and it sounded pretty promising. but as soon as i hit the starter it died. should be getting my amp back in a week or 2

anyways, that's my most recent adventure in car audio:D
