Fuel economy? Exhaust mods.
However, a less restrictive intake will help, so get that along with a catback with headers, and an underdrive pulley and you should be good.
Well actually watching the foot is probably the best lol.

With the 3500 Top end,65mm TB, headers and a decent tune, I was getting 31-33.5 MPG on the highway.

I keep a logbook of my mpg, no mods at all and if I'm doing highway driving I generally get 30 - 32mpg. I think that Brad had the best idea so far, "Well actually watching the foot is probably the best ."

I swear, if I watch how I accelerate and cruise just in 4th gear most of the city (around 1100 rpm) city mileage is all good, also slowing down more gradually, stuff like that. Highway, I just do 60 mph or 97km/h and usually see about 35 mpg.

may be slightly off topic but who makes headers for the 3400?

I just demodded because I plan on selling my car in May. I can tell you that the headers are one of the best mods for the 3400. Dyno tests have shown around a 18HP gain from headers alone, and if you watch your foot they will help increase fuel economy as well.
As far as the headers go the only company that still sells them is S&S, but you can ocassionally find used TOG's. I had TOG's which many feel is a better design due to thicker flanges, and the location of the o2 sensor.
If anyone is interested I will have my TOG headers forsale here in a few weeks for $425

 TOG's, dont get me started on those POS.
Modding for the sole reason to get better gas mileage is retarded.

So what is your deal with TOG's? I haven't had any issues with mine, and I know of at least 5 other people who are happy with them.

Leave it stock then... just keep fresh spark plugs and air filter in there. Although exhaust systems will help, the fuel economy savings doesn't justify the cost of the exhaust system, if that's the only reason you want to do the mods.

The best mod for fuel economy is a brick under the accelerator.
