okay, i was looking around for GA's the other day, not that I needed one, just curious to see what I could find. I came across this 03 GT 4dr and had a "premier sound system". I had no idea that they came with that option.

how do I know if I have a "premier sound system" in my GA? I know that the speakers are decent and I dont know if they are the "premiere" ones.

Are they much better than stock speakers? Are there any specs on the speakers I can look at for the speakers?

I'm just curious to see how good these things really are if I have them.

Any help would b appreciated. Thanks

The premium sound option in that year is the Monsoon system. In your car, I believe to check, you'd have to pull the carpet back on the driver side of the trunk, and see if you have an amp there. I know mine has it there, and I think it's the same for the 99.

Monsoon wasn't around in 99 on the GA so you would not have the same "premium sound" as an 03 would.

As for "how much better than stock speakers" they are, they aren't any better--they are stock speakers!

The main difference in the base and uplevel sound systems was the sail-panel-mounted tweeters and at some point (though I don't think it was in 99) they started bi-amping the rear 6x9s. A little later the Monsoon system came around and that was the premium sound option.

In your 99, though, the best way to tell is if you have the door sail-panel-mounted tweeters. If you do then it has "premium sound", if you don't you don't.

So, Manta, you're basically saying that I might have the "premier" system if I have the tweeter on the door like pictured below?

Yep, for 99 I'm pretty sure that confims it! Also I don't know if the term Premier was ever used by GM. Not that it's a big deal, but I just see you using it quite a bit in quotes, lol. "Premium" was a likely name but I don't recall seeing the term Premier before in regards to stock GA sound equipment (or any Pontiac for that matter).

On 96-98 models the exact name was "Extended Range Sound System" and the differences were the tweeters and the stock HUs having the EQ on them. What exactly it was called in 99 I'm not sure, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't premier lol.

actually, in 99 theres an amp in the trunk, on the drivers side, near where the trunk lid bracket comes in. its hidden behind carpet.

i think the tweeters were also in non-premium systems too, but were also an option so there were three stereo options in 99:
-basic stereo (cd or tape or am/fm stereo, to sail tweeters)
-upgraded stereo (cd player or take player, sail tweeters)
-premium stereo (bi-amped 6x9s, sail tweeters, amp in trunk)

and of course the SE2 and GT1 had the CD and tape option.

Dave is on the right track :). My 01 has a sail tweeters but is a plain old cd player.
