View Full Version : Odd(for me) stereo question...

I went to the local stereo installer to find out about getting a radio put in. The guy told me about an adapter(relay) that I would have to put in when taking the factory radio out. He told me that on GM cars, some of the cars circuitry goes through the radio before the computer. Basically, some of the electronics(courtesy lights, dome lights, air bag, door chimes) may not work when you remove the factory radio. Any of you guys know anything about this? Thanks. Later, QD.

Don't go back to that shop. Only thing the radio does is make the chimes, and that's is it.

Their are 4 harnesses you can get.

GMRC-01
Keeps your chimes and 10 min. play with car off.

GMRC-02
Keeps your chimes and 10 min. play with car off. The chimes come from the drivers speaker like the factory radio.

Umm the radio will work.
I have this in my car. I wired up a little speaker to it (to get the chimes) and had my OEM radio in the back. But one thing i saw was their was always one back lighting bulb on, on the OEM radio. (did you follow that?) So i just took out the OEM radio and said to hell with the chimes. And i cut off the 15' of cable that runs to the OEM radio. My alpine still works fine. Also you have to run a switch 12v line to the harness. IE just tap the wiper fuse in the driver's side fuse box. The BCM is what told the OEM radio to turn on and off.

I can't remember the part No. to the $9 one. ;crap
I believe this is it

Just like the 70-2003t but minus the tail that goes to the factory radio.

pretty much what he said. i'll have to buy a special $160 one if i want to keep onstar in my new ride :(

i'm glad that the 99 didnt require all that fancy stuff  i was able to use a cheapy harness and i'm pretty sure the chimes still work. i never pay attention to them honestly

yep they should work in the 99-00 since them are on the old school wire system. :)

I have an 01 and I have the GMRC-01 (the first one) in mine. So it should work will all 99+ that don't have Onstar, at least that would my assumption, but we all know what happens when you assume. :D

I did forget to mention that I am in an 04 GA without Onstar. No difference? Later, QD.
