okay. planning on putting a pair of Alpine SPS-171A 6-1/2"/6-3/4" Component Speakers in my car. I was about to purchase them from an online vendor, when I called a car audio place to see if they would fit. The guy there said no. He said that they couldn't fit 6 1/2"s on an 03 GA earlier today, and had to downgrade to 5 1/4" speakers. He said the reason they didn't fit is because the speaker wouldn't/won't fit depth wise because of the window track, it wouldn't fit in because of it.
Now, I talked to another guy a few weeks ago, and he said that they would fit fine in the GA, he would just need to make a bracket for it. I've also been told by many other members of this forum that they would fit fine also.
Who should I believe? Will the speakers fit? Anyone else have this problem with a 6 1/2" speaker installation?

I'd believe the people on here that have pulled it off. They have a sticky at the top that talks about doing it on GAs. I'm not sure that there is a huge sound gain to be made by upgrading to 6 1/2" speakers, so you may be fine with the 5.25". What else do you have for audio equiptment?

i wish i took more pics... but heres the adapter plate i used for the 6 1/2 speakers...my only problem i had was that the screws i used to mount the bracket were too long, so had to cut them down a bit since they were touching a part of the window... and a lil cutting here and there..and it fit... if a shop tells u they cant do it... then dont take it there because they obviously dont know how to do a custom job....

Mass market shops like Best Buy (typically at least) and many other chains only do the easy fit jobs. The ones you could do yourself if you had the right wiring adapters and patience.
That's my experience anyway.

Most install places only do stock to stock, meaning they'd really only willingly put in 4x6's. There are some places that will do custom work (Such as components) but you probably won't find too many that'll do it. Usually the best bet when doing custom work is to usually do it yourself.

I'm getting an Alpine CDA 9856 for a HU. The reason I want the 6 1/2" components is because their specs are an exact match of the rear 6x9's I wanted to put in the back (Alpine Type-S SPS-69C2). They have the same Max RMS handling and I want the front and rear to be the same RMS so I cant blow them out.

Peyman...where did u get that bracket? What brand?
For everyone else, it's not a Best Buy place I was talking about, it's a shop for just car audio called "Car stereo One", or as they used to be called "Audio Advantage". They're the only local place I know that does any professional installation on car audio, or so it seems.
Alrite, looked at a sticky at the top of this forum, and sunrunner_pei says that I need a Metra 82-3300 1" spacer to fit 6.5" speakers in the slot (http://www.shipsound.com/product_info.php?products_id=101527)...is this what I need?
a dumb question. If I do put in 5 1/4s or 6 1/2s, is there any way I can pop the stock speaker cover on the door panel when it's removed? I haven't and don't want to take the panel off just to see.

I fit 6.5" MB-Quart RCE's behind my door panels. You have to build up the speaker mount.
It looks stock. I have a post here with pics...
I will search it for you, cus I know you will ask for the link!

That is the link, I also re-did the install on the door speakers with 1/4" of plexy on the door speaker mount. Now the windows go down and the stock door panel still fits no problem (even with the mb-quart speaker grills on, behind the door panel, stealth)!
I need to update my install thread. Almost everything has changed!
5.25" kickpanels (mb-quart) rockford 400x4 and 2 500m's, 0-guage wire, HO alternator, audio control DQXS, 15F cap, 3 rockford PSD-1's,
and more.... (full dynomat treatment going on now, will post pics when completed)
