I have a manual shift nob on my shifter. The button is always pushed down. If you don't mind that you can always move the shifter I can talk you through on how to do it. Otherwise just ebay "automatic shift knob"

On my 96 if the button was pushed down it wouldn't let me put it in park.

Keeping the button held down isn't generally a good Idea. I had a friend who shredded his transmission out by doing that. Had a manual shift knob on his auto shifter, and a passenger bumped it when going to grab something, and it put the car into reverse while it was in drive... tore the hell out of it.

i would go with the b&e "T" style i had a bad experience with the straight handles the screw at the bottom always sliped and when u put it in park it wouldnt let u turn the carr off cause the button was slipping

yeah but the screws at the bottom no matter how tight would slip and that would cause it not to function properly.EX(park)

i solved that by wrapping electrical tape around the base of the shifter itself. the knob fit snugly over it, and the shifter never moved.

I have an Automatic shifter that doesn;t have a button, you just push down on the whole thing, its spring loaded, once if the trim around the part that shows what gear its in wasn't all part of one piece of trim, I was going to mount a boot so that it looks like a manual. I was going to put this shifter in my Prizm, but my wife drives that one now, and she's a party pooper, so she wants it to work like stock, so maybe I'll put the shifter in the grand am and post some pics once I do
