Hey guys I have one Alpine Type R 12" sub and I'm looking to
build a new box. I have looked at the suggested enclosure dimensions on Alpine's website and stuff but I want to see what works for you guys and girls and how you like it, whether its sealed, bandpass, or ported. I am kinda leaning toward a ported box, but im unsure what to tune it to, and again ur input would help a ton. Dimensions would be a plus
Thanks!!

^LOL You've seen and heard them all? :roll2:
And "bandpass sounds good, single sub...in a truck"? :roll2:
I'm actually not going to say anymore becuase I don't think I have to... :roflmfao:
Back on topic, I'd say build a ported box if you're up to it or have one built. The tuning frequency is up to you really. You can use Alpine's recommended frequency but personally I find with better woofers that can take advantage of lower tuning frequencies, tuning lower is recommended. Well not if the rec. is like 25Hz or something but I seriously doubt Alpine is recommending that low a tuning because the big companies usually recommend something that is a little boomy to appease the mainstream/masses.
Of course at the same time, you may well love the recommended frequency. Throw it through WinISD (you should be doing that anyway if you're building your own box) and play around with the tuning and watch the curve to begin with. Then if you're unsure what that means or will sound like perhaps go to a local shop and hear what the Type-R sounds like in a ported enclosure of whatever frequency they have it at. All the better if they have more than one with different tuning frequencies. The Type-R is popular enough that you should be able to find a few places that have it on display/demo.
Personally I'm tuned to around 27Hz or so but I don't have a Type-R and I'm not really familiar with whether you'd want to tune it that low or not. Not all drivers sound good (or sound any better or gain anything) from a lower tuning frequency v. a higher one. That's what WinISD or other similar programs help you figure out.

I have two 12" type-r's. They are sealed in one box, but in seperate chambers and they sound incredible.

i also have 2-12" alpine type r's.... I have them in one box also with their own chamber. It may not look as good but for what I had at the time I just bought the premade sealed box from Circuit City. It has held up really well.. And a sealed box works well for me.
