So i bought some 18' rims for my 99 ga, the bolt pattern is 5x114.3 and from my understanding i need hubcentric rings to take away the "vibration" when i drive since our real bolt patterns are 5x115...

anyways... is there a certain kind of hubcentric ring i need?... or all they all a standard size??...

will these work??

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEON-SATURN-PONTIAC-HUBCENTRIC-HUB-CENTRIC-RING-RINGS_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33749QQihZ008QQit emZ180083965375QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

if link dosent work....eBay item # - 180083965375

they say in their ad

"INNER DIAMETER: 57.10mm
OUTER DIAMETER: 73.10mm
MAKE SURE THIS IS THE SIZE YOU NEED. NO RETURNS FOR WRONG SIZE PURCHASES! IF YOU DON'T KNOW-MEASURE YOUR RIM HUB. CHECK OUT THE DIAGRAM BELOW! "

what size dooo i need??? in their title it says it should fit grand ams but who can trust ebay...any help would be appreciated

I'd assume rim and tire shops would carry these... ??? maybe pepboys or autozone... ??

You need to find out the centre bore of the aftermarket wheels you bought, just Google them.

Check GAGT.com's sticky in the wheel and tire section to find out stock centre bore.

Buy Hubrings accordingly.

I trust those rings will fit the grand am, but better question is will they fit the rims. You have to take into consideration both the rims and the hub itself.

Peyman,
Your wheels are manufactered by BBS & imported into the US.

Manufacturer: BBS
Model: Moda

There are various Moda models & a quick Google search turned up no hub rings. You could contact TR.

Check out BBS USA here (http://www.bbs-usa.com/index.php?id=304)

I forget which type car you got these off (Acura ?) but you can use the application guide to narrow it down. Maybe id you contct BBS they can help you too.

Did you get rings with the wheels? The Lexus has the smallest bore of all the cars that take 114.3. What type of lugs do the wheels take, cone or mag?

Hub-centric rings, as the name implies, simply centres the wheel on the hub and therfore much of the force is taken by the hub (where it should be), instead of the studs. Without hub rings, you install the wheels in a "lug centric" way instead where the wheel is not necessarily centred and more of the load is taken by the wheel studs instead of the hub.

Hub rings aren't just for 114.3x5 on 115x5 bolt patterns, they're for all situations where the hub opening on the wheel is larger than the hub on the car. Most aftermarket wheels make the opening as large as possible so as to fit every car, with the simple addition of rings.

All you have to do is match your ID and OD (inner and outer diameter). The ID of the ring you want to match to the hub on the car; the OD of the ring you want to match to the hole diameter, on the wheel. Simple as that.

Note that 92-98 GAs use a 57.1mm hub but 99+ GAs use a larger hub (I'm unsure of what it is) so those are definitely not the right ones.

When you look at the wheel's lug holes, you either see a beveled hole such as stock wheels have, steel or the 5 spoke mags, or you see a flat surface. Cone or beveled lugs will center the wheel but rings are still suggested. But 114.3 cone type wheels will not fit properly. If you have the flat hole, there is enough play to use on a GA. But you'll need the rings to center the wheel. There are different depth MAG nuts so get ones that match the wheels. The Lexus uses the same thread as the GA so if you get the lugsnuts, you can use those.

Mag is for mag wheels, an old term that has stuck around.

the lug nuts i got with the rims look just like the stock lug nuts on my 16' gt rims... is it a bad idea to put these rims on without the hub rings?... some ppl say they put them on and have no vibrations or anything like that... should i put them on just to see?? or is it bad to do that?? i already called like 5 tire shops and none of them carry hub-centric rings (and all these shops were like whats that?? spacers???)

Then they are cone style. The wheels will not fit properly no matter what. Stock lug nuts, whether chrome gt wheels or steel wheel are cone style

i just got the rims... and i was trying to test fit one of them to see how it would fit... but it wouldnt even go all the way on... there was a decently big sized gap between the rims and the hub... where that even if i wanted to put the bolts on... they would hardly even go on because not enough of the stud was coming threw the holes... ???? what the helll ?? whats the deallioo??

Perhaps the centre bore on the aftermarket wheel is actually not big enough to fit the hub? Is the centre bore getting stopped by the hub or is it another problem? Pictures?

SE2000

Lexus has a smaller bore but that would not give a big gap, just he depth of the hub. since you got wheels for a rwd car, you may have the spokes hitting the calipers.

Peyman

i checked for that...it was hitting the calipers...it didnt seem like it was hitting anything... it just wouldnt slide all the way on

well you're right... thats why they arent fitting... the center bore is too small on the aftermarket rims... now i have to take them to shop and have them machine it out or do whattever they have to do to make it bigger :( !

Those wheel must be special for toyota. You have rwd, wrong bore and wrong bolt pattern. It may be best to get some different wheels.

the bolt pattern is 5x114.3 and the offset of the rims are 38... i dont see why it wouldnt fit once i get the bore machined out and have them make it bigger.. ??

99+ GA are 115 not 114.3 and cone lugnuts will put stress on the wheel. The GA bore is I believe 62 and the Lexus is less than 50. You will be machining away the lip which you are depending on to keep the wheel centered.

I have a Lexus ES and A GA. I've tried fitting the wheels and it doesn't work IMO. Plus the GS's wheels usually push the wheels further out which may mean rubbing if you don't roll your fenders accordingly. It is a problem for me fitting GS wheels on mine.

I would ask some wheel shops aboutt their experiences doing what you said and how the results were. This is your car and your choice. I'm just giving my 2 cents. Somethings were just not worth doing

I'm curious. How did you make out?

Peyman

there was this metal circular part stuck in the center bore of the rims... using a hammer and a sharp edge i tapped against it for a long while on all of them..until it shattered into pieces...finally when i got those out... the front rims fit fine...but the rears seemed to have some issues... a set of spacers in the rears fixed the issue... pics will come shortly

It looks like you found the Lexus hub rings. Too bad they broke, I could have used them on my wheels.

And in all those PM's of advice I forgot all about the aluminum hub rings sometimes getting stuck, doh !!
Seems like somebody (prev. owner or shop) cheaped out and didn't use any anti-seize thinking aluminum didn't need it.

Good too hear you got them on, now show us some pics.... please.

Any idea of what the hub size is on the 99+ grand ams?

70.3mm is the hub outer diameter.
