View Full Version : Turn Signals Inop

I have a '95 Buick Skylark that has an intermittent turn signal issue.

They don't work at times, although I've checked the bulbs and they are fine. All lights, including parking/side marker lights are fine when I turn on the lights. Turning on hazard flashers results in only rear flashers being activated, front ones do not flash.

I've been going through the car since purchasing it recently, so I've cleaned up all ground wire connections, main battery connections are great, etc, etc.

There appear to be no weather, temperature, or humidity related common denominators associated with this problem. For example, the problem occurs regardless of how warm/cold the engine is, or what the outside air temp, humidity, or 'raining'/'not-raining' situation is.

Does anyone know where the 'flasher' units are typically located? I though I'd take a look at them to assess their condition.

Thanks in advance for any troubleshooting tips.

If your rear one work, you can find the flasher by listening. Also the flasher is ok if the rear work all the time. Try using a ground wire from the battery to the socket to see if the lights start working.

If the 94-95 Skylarks are anything like the 94-95 Grand Am electrical systems, then the combo switch is the #1 suspect.

Considering the Skylark is bascially the Buick Badged Grand Am in the 92-95 year range... i'd say it's probably identical.

Maybe... the interior differs quite a bit (even the fuse panel is different location) - so the switch itself may be completely difference if it's stylized for the Skylark. If it's the same as the GA, the hazard switch is a sliding one on top of the steering column.

You say the bulbs are working but are they the correct bulbs for signal lights?? Correct me if I'm wrong but shouldn't they have two filaments, one that is on whenever the lights are on and one for signaling.

It is also possible the signal light control arm switch is faulty and in need of replacement, my father had to replace it on his Chevrolet Eurosport twice . The problem with your flashers may be unrelated to the signal light problem, best to work on one problem and see if it corrects the other. Some libraries will carry wiring schematics for car electrical systems, couldn't hurt to check it out.

Good luck
