hey guys, been a while since i last posted. We're getting ready to sell my 99 grand am GT so i put my factory head unit back in. I origonally took it out because it was giving me a E30 error code whenever i put a cd in. Upon looking it up i found out its a focusing error.

Is there any way to fix this? Everywhere i look says to just send it in and get serviced, but i feel if theres a fix i can just do it myself.

Any help would be awesome.
Thanks
Sean

Most electronics are so delicate and finicky that they can't be serviced.
They certainly aren't intended for servicing by you or me 'normal' owners.

Look inside any pop-top CD player, and you'll see the little 'reader eye' about 4 cm from the center; that's what's 'out-of-focus' on you unit.

Right now you have a perfectly-good unit with a laser that's not pointing in the right direction (off by mebbe 1/2 a mm?).
You could try to adjust it, but I'd guess it's 5:1 odds you'd prolly damage something else permanently.

I would take it to a shop that sells old units, and see if they can repair it for $20-30.
Better than having to mail it off, or damaging it myself thru ignorance.

Just my $0.02
