i was going to get the p&p uim and lim for the 3400 and the stage 1 heads. but i heard that just doing the 3500 top end swap was a better bet. is this true and will i get more out of the 3500 heads and lim uim then the stage 1 mms heads and manifolds for the 3400

3500 top end is a better bet but I'm not sure you'll get better performance out of them than P&P intakes and heads from a 3400 v. stock 3500 stuff. Both stock the 3500 wins overall (despite the UIM actually being worse than the stock 3400 one), both ported the 3500 still wins. But ported 3400 stuff v. stock 3500 I'm not sure, I think the 3400 ported stuff would be better.

As for what's involved in doing the 3500 parts swap, do a search it was discussed fairly recently.

Stock Vs Stock go with the 3500 stuff. But if choosing between 3400P&P Vs 3500 stock go with the 3400. I agree with what Roland said pretty much.

lol. i see 3500 and i'm thinking Vortech. lol. man, if only my 3500 I-5 would fit in a grand am.... but i know you guys are talking about the new v6, but 220hp/225lb-ft would be nice in a GA

Stock 3500 heads flow more where it counts than any stage 1 type porting. The only reason to go with 3400 parts over 3500 is for boost. I have no found any NA setup that would prefer the 1.78+ min port area and flow of the 3400 ported vs the 1.55 min port area of the 3500 heads. Taper and velocity trump high flow numbers. Especially high flow numbers that only happen after .400+ lift. All out flow without regard to velocity is only good for boosted applications. Even then you have flow quality vs quantity, but im not going into that now.
