I am thinking about getting Blaupunkt ProComponent series front 4x6 and rear 6x9 for my 95 grand am. Their website says they won't fit, so i called Crutchfield, they say depth isn't an issue, its the height above the cone that the tweeters stick up. The guy said the 4x6 tweeter is 1/4 inch taller than stock and the 6x9 is 3/8 inch taller than stock. Anyone know if I would have an issue fitting the 4x6 behind the door panel or the 6x9 under the rear deck? Any help would be great, I want to order these tomorrow if I can get them to fit. If they won't fit, how hard would it be to make them fit. Just don't want to cruch the tweeters

I had 4x6 on my 95 when i bought it, they weren't stock of course, but there were there.
Crutchfield will send you a mounting piece so they will work in your door.

I'd worry more about the front speakers... it is rather tight in our doors. After trying several setups myself, I would consider mounting a 5.25" component set on a plate instead. It will give you more depth (no more stock basket mount), plus tweeter mounting flexibility... not to mention much much better sound quality over 4x6's. It was the most worthwhile stereo modification I've done to my 95.

I'm not sure about the rear though - there is tons of room under the rear deck, should be enough for just about any 6x9 on the market.

Where did you end up mounting the tweeters? Got any pics. Crutchfield also has Blaupunkt 5.25" Component sets on sale. How do you get them mounted on a plate? Never really dealt with door speakers yet

I played around with double-sided tape and velcro for awhile to "test drive" the tweeters in different locations, including dash and various spots on the door. The sounded best on the door, above the grill area.

I made the plate myself... just need a hole for the speaker, and mounting holes for the speaker screws and screws to mount plate to opening in door.
