well, the time has come. i finally got the dash outof the GASE. i want to remove everything beofr school and also no i can can start working on other misalanious interior projects

well the hard part was tring to figure out how to remove this wire that is inbetween the dash so i can remove it with out cutting

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y16/ga5speed02/My%20Grand%20Am/Guttin/WhatNot050.jpg

you need to unscrew the 7mm bolt in the fuse box (on both sides) and then with a small flat head pop the whole harness out.

i removed the 2 T30 screws from behing the steering wheel to remove the air bag

The trick in any garage or shop is to stay organized and clean. It makes a worlds difference when working on something. Looks like Bic thinks the same way i do.

thanks. yea i even went as far as to keep the hardware for the driver door in one bin and the passenger in the other.

all the push clip for the back liner that goes between the rear seats and the trunk i put back into place, the 2 passenger seat bolts are back in the floor. seat belt bolts are marked in a container but i am thinking about putting them back in their respective places just so its eaiser to reassemble.

I would guess that there is either fiberglass or vinyl dye going back on that dash. Toss in a new edition "Bic"ed speedo and radio trim for good measure.

Yea, when removing parts, I usually stick the bolts back in the hole it came out of. I do have to say though, those little miscellaneous clips and plastic brackets never go back....I usually end up having to break them to get them off....at dealerships they have bins full all the different types, but IMO, zip ties work quite well:lol:

Looks like a screwdriver with a couple prongs on the end? Yea I have one of those....I was thinking about those gay ones in the engine bay when I wrote that...You know, like those ones that hold spark plug wires together....even with a screw driver sometimes they dont pop apart like they should....you know...

Been there, What a hell of a time though. Took me forever as i would go for a few hours and get frustrated then proceed on the project again after a couple days. But the end result was well worth it. But it seems your going to be doing alot more then i did.

Cant wait to see when your done.

I had Zip lock bags, Glad containers, and plastic baby food jars, all labeled and everything and I still have a ton of bolts and parts left over... lmao

I think most were just from my old engine I removed.

lol

BTW, can someone messure the width and height of their gauge cluster. I'm wondering if my S10 cluster will fit within the bezel close enough.

Ebay, his old dash already has a foster home waiting in a 2001 Xtreme.

BTW, since I no longer own a GA can someone messure the width and heigh of the inside of the gauge bezel for me. I'm hoping I can get the S10 gauges to sit within the GA bezel, even if I have to trim a little or fiberglass a bit thats all good. Much easier than rewiring in all new gauges. Not to mention my truck has a voltmeter and oil pressure gauge unlike a GA.
