I'm going to install Blazertech 2200 fogs. Here's my question though, it would be much easier to simply convert the wiring harness to accept the factory power using the existing wiring. That way I wouldn't have to do any wiring, it would be like factory. Has anyone tried this? I realize the standard fogs use 27 watt bulbs but many here have used 50 watt bulbs with the factory wiring, so woulda 55 watt bulb in the 2200s be pushing the limit too far?

Give it a shot. The two 27 watt bulbs draw 4.5 amps. The two 55 watt bulbs draw 9.16 amps.

The fog lights are fed from a relay, usually rated at twenty amps so that should hold up. Make sure you have good connections where you tie the stock wiring into the new lamps.

You can grab hold of the supply wires after the lamps have been on for a few minutes. If they feel hot, you may want to feed the the lamps from another source.

What's the weakest link in the chain? I assume that auto wiring is like household wiring where the fuse would be rated to go before the wiring. I would think the relay would be the same because it's safer to have power cut before the wires catch on fire in case of a short.

I think I'm going to try it. I've been running 50 watt bulbs in there for several months now with no problems, but little improvement either. If that hasn't caused a problem then I'm thinking 55 won't either. As long as I don't go higher I hope it's all fine.

I just hate to do hack jobs on factory wiring unless you really need to.

installing blazertech 2200 or using a 885 bulb in the stock fog light is there any diff?

I would run new wiring. Melted factory wiring / electrical fires aren't fun.

Yes, the blazertechs won't end up with melted housings.

Just use the old factory power wire that runs to the fog lights and connect it to the switch wire on the new harness and its pretty well stock without the worry of melted wires.

I used the relay and wiring that came with the 2200's and it wasn't that hard. Recently, I've had a problem and I am not sure if the relay is busted or foglight bulbs are burned out... the fuse blew and I haven't had the time to check it out yet.
