I am very anxious to see the finalized kit. Here is what the kit mite incorporate for all who are interested.
Grand Am/N-body 4t65e HD conversion kit
We're still working out the details, but here's basically what it will
include ...
-A 4t65eHD transmission converted to 3.29 gearing to match the grand am's
stock gearing (stock HD trans final drive ratio is 2.93)
-two custom axles to use a 4t65eHD trans in a grand am/similar n-body car
-3 custom billet aluminum transmission mounts complete with polyurethane
inserts to mount the new transmission to the grand am chassis without
modifying the chassis.
-custom PCM setup for the transmission changes, with options for stock or
MMS tuning for another $100.
-wiring adapter to adapt stock harness to the new transmission.
-custom transmission lines - still deciding if we'll be using AN lines, but
I'm leaning towards it.
-Transmission cooler if we use AN lines
-One thing we're still deciding - We may make it standard that the
transmissions be rebuilt with new clutches and soft parts and a 90-day
limited warrantee. We will also have options for various aftermarket
transmission components to further strengthen the transmission.
-Also still deciding if every transmission should get a shift kit, or if
this should be an option.
I'm trying to include what I can and keep the price within the $3500-4000
range. I want to price it so that you'd spend the same or more on a 4t45e
performance rebuild as you would on this kit.
Let me know if you have any more questions.

I went to a car show a while back....while I was there, one of the MSD Ignition Techs was telling me that a 3800 swap into a Grand Am was a bolt-in. Ive heard conflicting ideas on this...
Here's a point I'd like to make. Grand Ams (at one point) came with a 3.1. Older GPs were also available with a 3.1, or the almighty L67 3.8 motor.
Having read Bandit's post, Im guessing that it's the transmission that isnt so compatible with the N-body frame....however theoretically, the motors are interchangeable.
My guess is that the only real difference in the Grand Prix 3.1 and the GA 3.1 is the mounts themselves....so when people try and say "oh man, you gotta make a lotta major modifications to get it to fit" they dont realize the only modification will be the mounts. Which, when you have the resources I do (cough*welder*cough), thats no problem at all.
Maybe when the MSD tech told me it was a bolt in, he was reffering to the motor.....Im getting ideas, I should stop while I'm ahead.....
5-speed....L67....Grand Am......oh yea:D

Thats some good news I guess. Thats a HUGE upgrade from our shotty tranny. Plus if you live close enough Im sure that Mike will install it for you at no cost as are all of his other swaps.

well if he goes through with this, there goes any money I was saving for body kits, more go than show is better.
that sucks that the gears need to be changed, because he could just sell you all the mounts and plugs and let you find your own trans at a local J/Y, you could still and let a local trans shop do the mods?

I think I'd rather have the higher gearing. Better mileage on the highway.

The kit with new mounts and axles would make swapping in a 3800 a much easier task.

Don't forget axle shafts also.

Of course it does... All the same bellhousing on these FWD cars. 3100, 3400, 3800, doesn't matter. The 3100 is in cars (like 94-97 GAs) with the 4T60, the 4T65 is no different in the way it bolts up.
It's other things that prevent it from being directly swapped into the 99+ GAs, such as the driveaxles as TA^Guy mentioned...

I saw a GA in 02 that had the "internals" swaped in from a GP. The guy said the shop had to do "some" grinding to the inside of the housing to get it in. I don't know if it was actually done, just what the guy said????

Are the 4t65e's that they will be using being rebuilt in the process? The 4t65e and 4t65e-HD transmissions' have a problem with their pressure control solenoid that would cause it to stick in the full open position. This would result in hard shifts in to every gear, along with a high whine being audible. It would be nice if they rebuilt the transmission and used the redesigned pressure control solenoid and valve body.
