whats up...maybe yall can give me some pointers on a sound setup.
my setup currently is:
delco 6 speaker sound system.
with a pioneer deh-p4800mp.
the sub is powered by a jvc 560watts (nikki sixx series; had it with me for a loooonnngg time...always made my speaker or sub bump)
the sub is a 12" kicker cvr (the black and yellow one)
with a sealed box.
it does'nt seem to hit hard like it used too.
in fact i've been thinking about going back to my other set-up...some of you may laugh:
4 6x9's in the rear deck.
i was thinking about keeping the 6x9 delco's in.
when i had the oem hu in...the hit pretty nice, but what i hated when you turned up the volume the bass fades out.
With the pioneer hu in they don't sound pretty....in fact the fronts sound better than the rears.lol.
soo...what do yall think

If I were you...
Upgrade the front 4x6's to 5.25" or 6.5" components... preferably powered by a small-medium amp.
Or if you really want a major overhaul...
-upgrade to components up front
-better sub(s)
-new 4 channel amp (powering front components + sub(s)
I'd pass on any ridiculous quad 6x9 setups. In fact, after playing around with all kinds of configs in mine, it sounds best with some basic aftermarket 6x9's, powered by headunit, and faded down. 6x9's should only be handling rear fill anyway - they should not overpower the front.

how can i upgrade the front to 5.25...no in fact i wanna upgrade to 6.5...
the factory door mounted tweeters sound pretty decent.
the jvc is a 4 channel amp that can be bridged.
i had suggested the 6x9 quads becuase the sound like 12's in the back...while my 12"...well kinda sound like a 12".
as for the 6x9's i was thinking pioneers.
had a set of pioneers hooked up to the jvc...and they hit pretty nicely.
and i remember reading something on how gm has there speaker setup.
the fronts for the mids and highs.
and the rears for the bass...where in turn the bass will travel towards the front..or something like that

well I have 4 6x9 Pioneer 300w three ways in the rear and 2 5.25 pioneer 180w three ways in the front powered bye one 300w pioneer amp for the fronts and one 800w pioneer amp for the rears plus my subs and It sounds perfect but as for 6x9s I would only recommend getting two unless you are looking to hook them up to allot of power I do not recommend getting 4 because you will not notice a difference unless they are amped now as for the fronts I would recommend some 5.25 speakers because they are allot easier to fit you will have to either get the brackets for them or custom mod the door to make them fit (witch is not that hard to do)and I don’t think they make brackets for the 6" because they are hard to put in the door

well in that case...i will notice a difference then...'cause if i do that they're gonna be amped...but why do you have 4 6x9's and subs??
i would do either one or the other.
how would i go about about hooking the 5.25 up??

Yeah of course. The traditional craptastic "protect-your-craptastic-factory-speakers" function of pretty much all GM factory head units. It's more like an "auto-loudness" feature than "fading out the bass" feature. What it does is just has a loudness that's always on except when you turn it up, to protect the speakers from damage and the HU from clipping as well.

Face it, the rear never sounded "pretty" at any point in time. Adding more rear speakers is just going to make it sound even worse. 6x9s FTMFL.
So yeah keep your factory 6x9s in there but just disconnect them. Trust me I've tried very hard to keep the 6x9s running but it always sounded far better without them. I have a pretty advanced 6-way electronic crossover as well, and I even tried pulling out the highs from all kinds of different xover points and it still sounded bad. Then I realised it's completely pointless to run 6x9s in the back of a Grand Am. Why people want to spend money to make things worse for themselves I never understood.
For one thing the air moved by the subwoofers in the trunk interferes with the cones on the exposed 6x9s to some degree. For another thing it was still wrecking the sound up front, with the rears crossed over at 3.5kHz low-pass and with the level decreased a bit. And of course then they were useless anyway I mean playing from 80Hz to 3500Hz and still souding bad in terms of what happens up front; and requiring another two channels of amplification. What a waste. And I had pretty "good" 6x9s too. I mean if I ran them full range (or even just high-passed at 80Hz with no high-cut) and faded it to the back and sat in the back, sure it was good times... Sounded great, only I don't sit in the back when I'm driving and no one ever really sits in the back period. So the solution was quite simple after that.
It's just one big waste of time. Do yourself a favour and disconnect the 6x9s.

I have the four 6x9s because the ones i have do mids and highs better than my 5.25s and i have the bass turned most of the way down for the speakers and the subs turned all the way up but seeing as you want to do one or the other I would reccomend getting the sub if it is the bass that you want and you can always add more if you feel like it.
as for how to get the 5.25s In the doors when you take the old ones out it is not that hard to do what I did was I had to cut a little bit out of the plastic speaker holder and then drilled holes in it and bolted it on now you may do it a differint way but its verry easy to do

ohhh...i might wanna do something a lil' different.
my pioneer hu has a feature where the sub and 6x9's work well together.
when i have the bass filter on (for the front/rears) 50/63/80/100/125
when on 50 the sub and 6x9's sound good.
but any level higher...it's as if the sub bass gets cut too.
but with the filter off....oh man they sound good!
but when you turn em up....hears comes that muffled pop noise from the rear.
and umm with my 6x9's off...with the sub and fronts it sound like shit imo.
the oem hu sound better from low to mid volume becuase they're tuned that way.
the pioneer you can adjust the eq curves and even more.
there's a lot you can do with this system.
plus my mom likes the kicker sub anyway.
i even had an idea of taking my kickers and mounting them in place of where my 6x9's would've been....
but thats to damn ghetto.
when i have the siblings in the car they block the bass.
i tried facing it out wards: sucked upwards: sucked...even worse.
it only sounds decent when facing the back seat.
here's my setup if i decide to do the 6x9's.
using the jvc amp (which has crossovers, bass boost, gain...all that jazz)
the fronts are gona be full range...bass probably be 1/2 way
the rears two to each channel which'll boost the rms level.....
imo gm always had the best sound system...even if it was the delco basic radio.lol.....

i found a pair of pioneer TS-A6962R.
i listened to the older models they had.
and man they sound really good.
they even had my radio on the display.
so i set it up to my likes and they did'nt make any nasty noise.
so i'll get those this week or next week.
and then get the 5.25 speakers.
my mom said she wanted the kicker sub.

6x9"s :(

what...imo the ones i heard sound pretty good.

i was on crutchfield.com and seen they had kickers on sale bogo.
i looked in my trunk....i could remove the 6x9 and mount them right there.
they won't be noticeable, i'll have space....and the most important one of all.
they're free air mount (meaning i could use the trunk as the "box" and not really suffer in sub performance and damaging the sub.
what do yall think??
p.s.
i was messing with my pioneer hu today.
and found if i cut off the hipass filter the sub and 6x9's gives out more bass.
but in turn i had to turn down the bass boost level becuase the rears started sounding nasty again.

Don't even bother with rears. What you SHOULD do is spend all that money on a good set of 6.5 components in the front. If you still have money to burn, put them on an external amp.
pontiac3100
02-19-2007, 07:39 PM
oh yea...i was told that 5.25 was easier to put in.
i'll get some pioneers and put em' in.
i'll leave my tweeters alone.
as for the rears...i guess i wont be buying any because my mother went and got some pioneer rev's...eh model ts-d691r.
dandragonrage
02-19-2007, 11:37 PM
The rev 2-ways are actually good for what they are. So while 6x9s aren't optimal, congratulate her on (and thank her for) at least getting decent ones. :)
pontiac3100
02-20-2007, 07:23 PM
so those are good speakers??
i think the rms power is 2-80watts...my jvc has 50watt rms per channel....will it work.
i could buy another amp...oh wait i am, my mom wants the jvc too.lol.
i seen a couple...like profile where it has i belive 80w rmas per channel.
any way i seen a couple places had the pioneer 4x6 on clearance and seeing how the stores just place the speakers in...odd are they'll sound better in the car.
anyway as usaual i did my settings and turned those things up....they sound pretty good for some 4x6's.
i'm still gonna get my 5.25's though

hey what do yall think about this amp Alpine MRP-F250 pushing the pioneer rev's??
dandragonrage
02-21-2007, 12:02 AM
Don't bother amping them.
pontiac3100
02-21-2007, 04:17 PM
why not??
those thing rms rating is 2-80watts...
and lets face it...i don't think my pioneer hu can bump those??
dandragonrage
02-21-2007, 04:31 PM
They're only rear fill. They shouldn't have much power.
pontiac3100
02-25-2007, 06:31 PM
well this is weird...i was reading on how to take out the rear speakers...oh hell naw.
ain't got time for that...so i cut into them..i'll get the screens from a grand prix or concorde to cover that up.
anyway
i have some pioneer 3ways in the back?
it sounds like crap with my pioneer h/u but sounds wonderful when i had the stock delco in....why??
pontiac3100
02-27-2007, 08:34 PM
and you suggested not to amped them.
i put em' in.
they sound good till you raise the volume then the bass from the front speakers start taking over.
so it really needs an amp.
because this is gonna sound ghetto.
i hooked them up to my home theater system.
and they sound nice compared to how they sound now.
so yea that alpine gonna come in handy.
dandragonrage
02-28-2007, 02:48 PM
No, you need to put your fader mostly to the front.
pontiac3100
03-09-2007, 08:42 PM
well i put the alpine in....oh man what a big ass difference.
those things sound better than my 12" kicker matched with the 600watt jvc amp.
my trunk bumps...which i don't like.
and another thing the front oem speakers....they can handle this amp they don't distort at all!
one of the cool features the amp has is it take out a certain amount of bass, which is still decent.

i have pioneer 6x9 4-ways in teh rear of the car and they are already blown after about 5 months. i need to get some new ones
pontiac3100
03-09-2007, 10:03 PM
damn that sucks...did you have an amp to em'
the ones that was in there i though was factory becuase they sound so damn good.
when i took em out they were pioneer's.
but the coil on em looks like the oem or no wait the oem coil was bigger than those. lol.
the pioneer's i have are called rev series.
so these should be able to handle with no problem

no i didnt have an amp running to them, and i still really don't know if its the fact that i didnt run the amp wire to them or not (at least i think i didnt). i need a def. schematic of the wire colors for the 99 ga se to see if i just have them hooked up wrong or if it is indeed blown.
pontiac3100
03-11-2007, 07:34 PM
there's a sticky or should be for your car.
what model were those...iv'e been told that if speakers are under powered they will blow out.
and i have went through that too.
