Hey there,
I purchased a 1997 GA in the summer and it had no stereo system. The girl took it out and I just needed the car for a short distance commute. She had all aftermarket stuff in there. Now I've decided to put in a stereo which is no problem. The problem lies in the door speakers. What size speakers are these? They look like 5, 5 1/4, or 6 inch speakers. When I look on crutchfield, they say 4, or 4x6. Which is it? When I pulled off the aftermarket grill, it looks like a round circle, which I would think 4 or 5 inch. Any thoughts?

The stockers are 4x6, but many of us have either put 5.25" or 6.5" speakers in with adapters. I would suggest going with either of these and not with 4x6. There is a template of the adapter floating on here that I posted if you need it.

Thanks all..
more questions. Ok, She did use a 5 1/4 or 6 in speaker in there. If I purchase a pair of these, and put them in, do I still need the adapter? What should I make the adapter out of? I'll print it out and trace it but what does this do? Can I put the door on, then the speaker? Sorry for the questions, but audio is not my strongest part on cars. Thank you for your help.

well if there already was a 5.25 or 6.5" speaker in there then all you would have to do is put it in just like she did as for the door do you meen the door panel? if you do then yes you would have to put the speaker in before the door panel on

The problem with Grand AM's is that you cannot get to the speakers without removing the door panel. The rear 6x9's also require trim removal to access the rear deck screws for them.
