if i bought the boroloa cat back exhaust system for my 99 ga se would i have to get a professional to weld it or is it made so you use clamps and stuff -- not sure about how exhaust is mounted besides headers!

Joe,all of the cat back systems I helped to install were bolt them together and using the stock rubber mounting areas. The biggest thing about cat back systems is to get the car up on a lift-alot of muscling will be used to get it aligned correctly.

So that means you didnt have to cut or modify anything for it to fit? thanks.

I think you'll be better off going to a local shop and getting a custom exhaust. I have a really nice custom STAINLESS catback on my GA, 2.5" dual-outlet Camaro-style muffler (mounting custom fabricated), I supplied the resonator and muffler, cost me IIRC $300. They did a very nice job, one of the guys even did a pullup on the exhaust when it was done and still on the lift to show how well it holds up.

I paid about $140 shipped for the Magnaflow resonator + muffler, but you can use something much cheaper. Use a glasspack/bullet muffler as a resonator (if you even use a resonator - I prefer to use them for a deeper sound that isn't obnoxiously loud on the highway), Dynomax has them for like $20-25, and whatever brand muffler you like.

I realize the kits may seem more convenient, but even my stainless Magnaflow exhaust was cheaper than some non-stainless kits, and I challenge any of you with a kit to a quality contest. At the particular shop I went to, I just called a few days in advance, got a date/time (I'm actually the one that wanted to book in advance as I was busy for a few days, they are able to accomodate most people same-day), went down and waited a bit over an hour.

I got alumanized steel exhaust for $125 at a local shop on my 2000 GrandAm. It was about the same for my Jeep. Both 2.5" catback setups.

Add cost of muffler to it for final price.

My SLP system came with stainless clamps. I installed it in my driveway. It is not welded.

If you are going to install it yourself, get the flange bolts torched off. The flange is behind the cat and they are rusted solid. I spent a couple of hours cutting them off with a saws all. After they were off, I ran a 3/8" countersink through the holes to clean them out and I got 3/8" stainless nuts and bolts to hook up the new exhaust.

Use jack stands.

I was looking to do something similar. Any chance of getting a sound file? I want the deep sound but not obnoxious on the highway like you mentioned.
I was also considering a Borla but its a little pricey.
