View Full Version : removing stock head unit

im sure theres prolly already a thread that answers this question but i was wondering if ne one could tell me the steps in takin out my stock head unit in a 01 grand am gt. or maybe send me a link to a site or somthing cuz i saw one site on here but it was earlier grand ams. well ne help would be appreiciated thanks

i can help ya. firstull have to get somthin like a lil pick to pry the black circle that says on off on the ignition. pry that off then all you have to do is take the pick and pry back the molding around the unit. if you have the tape deck u might have to have your car in N or D do clear the shifter. after the molding is clear unhook the 4 ways ( easy just unhook them). after that unbolt the headunit. remove it and unhook it. there ya go. its vague but it really isnt that hard.

haha its that easy?? i found a site and they said i had to go behind my dash and un screw some screws and take out my center console and the screws in the cup holder...but ur sayin all i have to do is pretty much just pry of the black trim? ima give it a try later to do see if i can get it..thanks for the reply i appreciate it

Yea just pull the trim away from the radio and there are 2-4 screws (cant remember right now) and then the radio slides out. Its fairly easy.
