Well I bought these on ebay a while ago and I decided it is time to do some work on these since I am still waiting for my AED tails. I am planning on making a custom wiring harness so I can easily switch these tails and AED tails anytime I want.
My rear bumper doesn't have the reverse lights anymore and I want to know if I should include reverse lights on these or don't have any reverse lights (how it is now - even though it is illegal)
I know these tails need smoothing and evening out the circles. The circles will have to be made bigger to fix those LED's.
I plan on using LED's (these to be exact):

I would try to find somewhere to mount some reverse lights. Not only illegal but its pretty hard to tell when someone is backing up without them.
I like those tails though.

Dan,if I'm correct doesn't somebody make a led assembly with the inner ring white,so you can have back-up lights, and the outer ring red for tail lights. If they have this all what you need to do is use that type in the inner tails and leave the outer tails completely red.

I have no idea...that would be interesting if they did have something like that.

Depending on your state, no reverse lights may be legal or not. For older cars , reverse lights were an option. If you have them, they had t o work but it was ok if there were no lights.
That said, modding in a row of clear leds across the bottom would solve your problem

Dan, I got this info. from my Son,LVAC (vol. ambulance) member-he's got enough led emergency lighting on his truck like you wouldn't believe! He told me to tell you, go to "whelen led lights>exterior emergency vehicle warning lights> able 2 sho-me led par 36 lights(something you might be able to use for back-ups). Idea for you, take a ride over to "Jim's Truckstop" on Walden Ave. near GalleriaMall. Jim's Truck Stop is next to KMart. They have led lights in the truck stop store.

Hmmm a ring of white LEDs on the outside of the red would be amazing looking. Plus it would give you back up lights. That is what I love about our GAs, the built in back up lights. Makes it awesome.

A little pricey
I probably wont use any reverse lighst since these wont be on daily....The AED ones will have the reverse lights built into the tail lights. I can have these lights on in the day time
Thanks Ryan for the pic!

Check out these ebay LED's. They're prewired, 10mm (about 3/8") and pump out a lot of light (10000mcd each). You could have five on each side. $14 shipped.

The tail lights I posted above won't fit and will be to hard to fit. I need 3.75 inch LED's and I cant find any of them because most of them are 4 inches.

Could always use light from a new VW.
But I'd ditch those lights anyhow, not all that great IMO.
