i mean, not for nothing, but having a 4 door se w/ hubcaps should make you want to do other things before the hood. Like a drop, wheels, etc... putting a cf hood on your car as it sits now would be a horrible idea

On a completely stock car it would look horrid/cheesy.

I agree. If you need a new hood as it is, go for it... but as a mod I don't see it as a priority.

It is, after all, your ride. All that really matters is whether YOU like it or not. If you really dig the CF look and don't care much about the wheels, by all means go for it.

in terms of quality of CF hoods, im personally not big on them...

my buddy has one for his car and it warps easily, and doesnt look like it fits right. Every time he uses his prop rod, the hood gets contorted and he needs to put weight on it to try and flatten it out.

What's the advantage of one. If I had one I'd paint it to match the car there wouldn't be a point at all I guess. If you actually like the black hood on a colored car then just paint your existing hood flat black and then put a semi-gloss clear coat on it. It'll look about the same for a fraction of the cost.

Well to be honest I don't think they would look any good on a grand am I think they only look good on import cars but getting a hood scoop would look great on the car. A carbon fiber hood would just look out of place on a grand am

When you do the hood like Gus did it looks AMAZING. Not to mention it saves a ton of weight. IIRC a stock hood clocks in at around 200 lbs and a CF hood is maybe 30-40 correct?? All that weight adds up to something at the track.

Right, but that's a black car. The hood matches the car.

Yup and on a white car you can do the same thing and it looks amazing. Especially if its the SC/T hood.

We'll all just have to politely disagree on the look of a black hood on a non-black car. To me it just looks like un-repaired collision damage.

Sorry but you're way off on the weight. The stock hood and my SD hood are under fifty pounds. That's just a guess but I can carry them around when I swap them in the spring and fall.

Hmmm I knew I wasnt close but didnt know it was that light. How much does the CF hood weigh then?

Quick research tells me that regular hoods are in the ~50 range and that carbon fiber hoods are 5-10 lbs depending on the thickness.

My stock hood and my steel aftermarket hood for my truck I can lift on and off by myself. It's not even close to 100lbs, let alone 200.

the stock 96-98 hood weights about 30-35lbs. JSP's cf hood weighs in at about 13-15. Because of the overall mass of the hood, it seems like it weighs nothing.

The advantage of a cf hood is supposed to be weight reduction. However, with the trend of imports / tuners, it's more of a show thing in my opinion because someone will get a cf hood, and then do a 300lb stereo in the back. There was a guy at carlisle last year who had an all cf rx-7 and he said it cost him about 12k to have all the parts shipped to japan to have one off parts in cf made and shipped back... He saved about 600lbs in weight, so it wasn't very cost effective in my opinion

There's a guy on here (forgot his name) w/ a 96-98 4 door w/ an andy's kit and he's got a cf hood (he's from rochester too) and it doesn't look thaaaaaat bad... a lil paint can really go along way

Yea if you go over to GAGT forums a guy there, SiK, has almost his whole GA in CF and has a kick ass paint job.

Please don't paint your hood black.

yeah that would really be lame... I mean, you may like it, and your friends might, but you are going to run the constant embarassment on the street when everyone else see's that you just painted your hood black
