About 2 months ago I had to drive my car home with only 1/2 quart of oil left. My Oil Pressure Switch was leaking realllllllllll bad. I was 70 miles from home with my wallet at home (dumb ass huh???) and had to get it home.

Anyway.....it was clangin' and knockin' all over the place when I got it home. Ran to AutoZone and picked up a new switch and changed the remaining oil out. Now when it's cold started, it'll tap around for about 5-10 mins while it warms up....louder than normal 3100s do when they are cold. I have no loss in power nor is it running any differently other than that. When it warms up, everything is all good...no tapping at all.

I know there was much potential for me freezing my engine up doing what I did.....and it was pretty stupid but I was in a bad situation.

Is what's going on bad or not a problem at all?? I've been worried since this has happened. Please let me know. Thanks.

its a bad thing, i think you might have cause some internal damage to the motor...... But then again at my dads work they run our motors with any 1 quart of oil in them, they run all day LOL

how many miles are on that 3100?

oh and my car went kinda far with out a oil pump it sezied up when i turned the car off

I would never be 70miles from home without my wallet.....you never know what could happen.

Most likely you threw a bearing. More specifically a rod bearing. When you have half a quart of oil in there, that is bad. The bearings overheated and started to disentegrate. You will have to have the bottom end rebuilt. Probably the main bearings were damaged as well. I had some mains and rod bearings go out on my Vette and 2 Fiero's. Good Luck!!!
