What is the widest tire I can stick up front on a 02 GA? I am getting ready to order some forged pistons and rods and I am planning on turning up to boost. With that it will bring tractions problems and I have a spare set of 2 rims at the house that will hold a 255 wide tire. Would that fit without rubbing?
I am not planning on running these all the time, but just when I get to the track break out a jack and swap out the stockers for them. Planning on gettin a set of BFG drag radials.

You might not want to get tooo sticky of a tire considering our transmission has the insides made out of pudding. If its just a drag car then why not but if its anything close to a DD then I wouldnt get the radials just a set of summer ultra high performance.

BTW Im running 235/40/18 and have no issues at all.

Yeah I know our tranny's aren't the best in the world. I thought about just getting a set of BFG good high perfomance tires, like the ones that come stock on Dodge SRT-4's. I think they are like the KDW-TA2's or something like that. I was also considering Nitto 555's or the 555r's,

Ive got Falken Azenis and they are pretty damn good. Ive also heard good things about the Nitto's for sure.

my brother had the nittor 555r's on his LS1 and they couldn't hook at all! he could heat them up forever and try to launch and still be spinnin through the 330 foot. I guess that is what happens with about 500 horse and then sprayin a 150 wet shot on top of that.

Well you arent going to be pumping 500 HP to the wheels with the Eco unless you spend a TON of money.

I know thats why Im saying that I will most likely get the nitto's.

Ahhh. A ton of people have them and are happy. They are pretty expensive if you ask me though. You can find some other tires that have higher tread wear but the same grip and performance and a cheaper price. If it was me Id search a little more.

well since he had the nitto's pretty much brand new (maybe 4 passes on them) he said he will give me both of them for 100 bucks.

We would need to know the rim size you are using. It's not a good idea to go past a certain width of tire, and that's based on the width of the wheel.

235/40/18 toty proxies 4 here i cant even chirp them

It is a 8" wide tire on a 16" rim.

tire width is not important at this point. It's all about wheel diameter size and width. If you have a 16" wheel, you could assume that you have a 7" wheel width. That means you could prolly go up to 205 or 215. Don't quote me on that as we need to know what the wheel width is

Well the spare pair of rims I will be mounting them on came with 245 wide tires. I was just asking if it would fit without rubbing and maybe a 255 is possible.

ah

Off the top of my head, i'm not sure. I'd say your best bet would be to put those on and see if you have any rub issues. From there you could use a ruler to see how much room you'd have. The first number (245) is measured in mm, so you'd be able to see how many more millis you can squeeze in there

You are correct.

Rim diameter and aspect ratios also effect total section width.

As I recently mentioned in another thread about staggered sizes, if one were to look at tirerack.com and check out tire information on tires with the same width (lets say 225) the idea l rim width changes when other factor alter like the aspect ratio or rim diameter.

I'm planning on swapping the tires of my car for slightly larger tires. 205 compared to 185.

Judging by what Ancona said, I shouldn't have any issues with clearance when I turn the wheel lock-to-clock right?

I know the tires are only slightly larger, but I'd have a more peaceful mind seeing what other people think.
