So I decided to amp all of my speakers for louder and better sound quality. I can install anything, but never had to shop for an amp before. I know I want this amp to power just the speakers, and I'll be getting another amp to run 2 12"'s later on. I am more concerned for sound quality than I am the loudness of the speakers, but I'm assuming any amp near 100rms per channel will be loud as anything. Really looking for a 4 channel amp to power my Polk DB 6x9's and 5 1/4 components. I'm running a sony HU right now, but a Kenwood Double Din down the road.
Also, the wiring of the speakers after I amp them. Is the stock wiring good enough to run to the amp, or should I get better wire / larger gauge?
Budget for amp = preferably under $200. Wiring and all that I expect to be extra.

I'm the same way to...I want to find out all this stuff as well, so any help would be good for me as well! I'm looking for a 50 watt rms 4 channel amp. Budget: $150-175. Any suggestions?
It would run Alpine 6 1/2" components w/ Alpine 6x9"s in the back. Both are 50 watt RMS w/ 250 peak rating. Alpine CDA-9856 as well for my HU.

I run the Polk/Momo c400.4 amp for my speakers, but im running the momo components as well!
I use to have a Kicker 350.4 pushin the momo's but took it out to get the new amp due to the amp dying...got replaced under the 4 year guarentee", im sure the kicker would work great for the DB's it just was not for the momo series i found out!

Would we have to upgrade wires as well? How much would that be around? How much could my Alpine Type S's handle if they're rated @ 50 watts RMS? Sorry, I don't really know a lot about amps that much.

Alpine Is out with a new model of amps but this was the model they made before there newest ones. I personally have this amp connected to my interior speakers/components. My friend has the newer version of this amp in his car and it does not work when the car is cold, it has to heat up. I am very happy with the MRV-F345. 75W for speakers is more than enough, unless you have $800 to over a thousand dollars for one pair of speakers.

Rick's front speakers can take in excess of 100W RMS, so he could go up to a nice beefy amp like 650.4 or something. Once I upgrade my stereo I'll be getting those speakers for the front and powering them with a Kicker kx650.4, you can get it for $150 on eBay because it isn't the current model. Looks badass too.

It seems like every car forum (as opposed to car audio forum) I go to, I hear: Alpine, Alpine, Alpine, Kicker, JL, Alpine, Alpine, Alpine, Alpine, ED, Alpine...
Get the amp I posted before. Or if you want a known good brand, go with what I chose for my own car: Pioneer PRS-D4000F.

What is the RMS rating x4 channels @ 4 ohms for that amp? I went on the website you provided and it didn't give me any power specs.
...IS A WIRE UPGRADE REQUIRED TO AMP THE SPEAKERS?

A wire upgrade is not required, just highly recommended if you are running better speakers and amping them because you have more power running through and don't really want to rely on the little wires used by GM.

any amps that i should avoid for bad sound quality? Also, what gauge wire would be recomend, 16 or a little bigger to wire the speakers? Thanks for the help so far, like I said, I've done it all before, but never had to shop for it.

I haven't installed new speakers ever but I read up on this stuff and I'd figure somewhere between 10-16 gauge. If the wire is too big it shouldn't cause any problems.

Plus the wire upgrade tends to yield some sound quality upgrade over the old stock ones.

ended up grabbing a Boss 1600watt 4-channel amp, RMS is 150x4 so, shouldn't be bad at all. Grabbing the matching 12" polk db subs prob tonight, then going to need to shop for a mono amp. Now a few more Q's
1 - 16 gauge from the amp to speakers?
2 - any brand wire I should avoid?
3 - The crossovers for the 5 1/4 components, keep'em or wire the tweeters off the 5 1/4?

I believe the brand name is Raptor, whatever amp kit you can buy from Wal-Mart. Their 4ga wire is pretty much 8ga with thicker insulation from what I've read, it was in a thread in here a few months ago if I'm not mistaken.

Why do some people just not take advice? Boss is one of the worst brands you can buy, and I GUARANTEE you it won't even put out half of the power it advertises.

did i not ask for which brands to avoid? did i ever get a response? no, i didn't. As long as it's louder than it is now, and the sound quality doesn't go down at all, i'll be happy.
