the intake noise is AWESOME. even from upgrading from WAI to CAI it is SOOOO LOUD.

i would like to know if someone has 3400 with CAI,exhaust (i have 50series flowmaster/dual outlet) of ENGINE hp and wheel HP.
that would be appreciate

i've done calculations and this is what i've found using import/ebay guesses

BASE 3400------170hp,200lb torque
w/exhaust-----245hp,300lb torque
w/intake----320hp,400lb torque

but seriously, at the most i figure about 185engine hp with 210lb torque, but i would like to see what *REAL* legit numbers are

ok I know a stock 3400 has around 175hp total, not wheel hp but those other numbers look wack!

w/exhaust-----245hp,300lb torque
w/intake----320hp,400lb torque

those are definately with other mods than just an exhaust and/or air intake

with a short ram intake or WAI,your looking at a very minimal gain, maybe a couple hp if that. CAI,maybe a tad more than a WAI.

You won't gain more than 10HP/tq with both exhaust and intake. And 85% of your gain will be from the exhaust.

those made up numbers if you look are "ebay, or import" numbers.

you know how some people say "yeah i got a cai and it boosted HP by at least 50hp" kinda thing......

i do realize that numbers *should* be around the 185hp range

anyway

you may see a 1 or 2hp gain with a cai vs wai

As mentioned those numbers are so far off, it's almost rediulous that someone would even make those kind of claims

Plenty of companies in car magazines claim their cone intake in a box, just like a DS CAB, will give you at least 25hp. These are the same people that say the type of badging you have affects your hp rating.:roll2:

true true true......

did you know every sticker you have takes 0.1s off your 1/4 mile?

Lol, there is a guy here at school with at least 12 stickers on his 97 GA where you would see stickers on a stock car, all of them for companies that don't make parts for our cars and clearly he has done absolutely nothing to his GA except put those stickers on it. So to summarize yes, they do make you faster.

  i love ppl making claims like that. guy in my unit said jus an CAI would give him 20hp on his bone stock Tibarun GT...

theres a guy at work that said im stupid for not getting an electric s/c for my car because they add like 5 lbs of boost (according to him)... yet he claims his stock 04 eclipse will beat me car.

5lbs? dayyyyum thats alot... or the $80 soda can called the tornado.... (popular mechanics magizan busted that myth while back with dyno proven loses)

ROFL! at that point i would stop listening to anything he ever says.
You should tell him he needs a tornado fuel saver and some ebay performance chips to really get his car off the line.

lol, it'd start flying away by then...

We've got a few kids in my autos class that are convinced the electric s/c off eBay adds so much power, little plastic piece of junk that it is. They also believe the resistors on the IAT helps.

now, i did see a vid somewhere with these guys that used a gas-powered leafe blower and stuck it into the intake while the car was on a dyno. they actually got like 20hp out of it

As long as it pushes air out at a cfm rate higher than what the car would normally get, then yeah, you get some boost. But most of the electric s/c's you see online aren't pushing enough out to be useful.

it jus funny as hell seeing the leaf blower with a guy holding the thing lol

Yeah I saw that video on streetfire, I can't image the fumes and what other crap he sent into is engine.

Maybe not 20HP, but some other cars see a rather significant gain going from stock to CAI. For example... a CAI on a QR25DE (in my Spec V) shows a 9HP gain on the dyno. That being the case, credit to GM for engineering decent stock intake systems.

I'd be worried more about the lack of extra fuel needed for that extra air. Lean FTL.

WAI doesn't allow enough flow distance before the MAF to get smooth flow readings. I have spent the last year looking at flow characteristics comparing my WAI to the CAI. The CAI shows a smoother increase in MAF Hz. The WAI caused very choppy results as the flow increased. When you tune your car with a WB this becomes more important because of how tight you can make the tolerances.

i'd believe the 9hp gain from a really good CAI over some one shooting out the mouth saying 20

i forgot to mention i added a turbo whistler in my exhaust and it *sounds* like it has at LEAST 200 more hp.....
and the aerodynamic windshield wipers

o did i say turbo....i meant supercharger blower imitator.

back to original idea, CAI/flowmaster dual exhaust =185hp/210lb torque? or am i off base with those numbers?

cai and flowmast? i'd say that'd be close. maybe a lil more.
