like poster tacks? for handing posters on the wall? Walmart
is your headliner falling? if you want to replace it in the future and are looking for a short term fix don't use tacks, cut a small dime size hole in the liner and shoot some adhesive up in there, let it set up for a minute, then press the liner up in to the area, this is only if you plan to replace the liner, tacks will ruin the foam under the liner. A can of 3M super 77 spray adhesive and 2-3 yards of fabric from the same walmart is probably 20-30 bucks depends on what fabric you want. the time involved will be most of a day, just getting the A,B,C pillar covers out of the way to let the headliner foam fall, you want to do it outside the car.

I assumed by tacts he meant tachometer, but then why pluralize it.
If it is for your headliner, use a stapler. It does good as long as you don't hit a wire.

I came back to this thread just cuz i want to know what "tacts" are.
I'm with u guys.......I think that he means "tacks". My bro had the problem (headliner) in a Chevy Cavalier...the tacks kept falling out over time. Only time i've seen tacks work...the person had at least 50 holding up the headliner. It really looked...."tacky" (yea, i know, i know)

in my friends old beater minivan, we used pennies to hold the headliner up... prob more pennies up there than the car was worth.

The only thing white that involves tachs is reverse glow gauges. I have seen a few cars that have clear reverse glow gaiges that shows wires and LED's

Why would he come here and ask about thumb tacks? It has to be gauge related, except he clear thing? Okay, I'm lost.
He seems to be gone anyway.

It's sort of like a riddle.
Name a appearance modification that comes in clear or white and sounds like "tacts".

Ok, so I've been following this thread and here's my take on it all.
He has a gauge tach.... I mean a tach gauge, and he wants to get away from the tacky OE colour of the gauge so he's looking for clear or white something or others (tacts).
AND IT ONLY TOOK 5 DAYS!
I can only imagine how many days it will take to find out the make of the gauge, so some research can be done for this poor fellow....

Guages (http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/category_10001_10002_10339_-1_10331)
Take a look here, lots of different guages, including tachs. Only limit is, are you willing to pay for them, and are you technically able to hook one up? If you don't want to pay, go to a junkyard and find your favorite tach, find a pod that fits it, and mount it in the car.

Isn't there a way to make the factory one look white? I know the faces themselves are red so you can't change the bulbs but I seem to recall a dayglow cover you put on them or something that makes the glow white but still bright enough to see fine.
by the way, I am forgoing the giant I told you so thread but I did say he meant "tach" not tacks.

You win the prize for figuring out tachometer was what he is referring to, but before you can collect your prize check, you'r going to have to lay it on the line with your "he wants to change the bulb color". If you're not happy with your choice better change it now before we get the next clue.;)

Your tach doesn't tell you how fast your going, your speedometer does.
either way, you can change the bulbs, just a very lengthy frustrating process. What your going to need to do is take it all apart, take the needles off, pull the face off, and see if you can change the color of the flim, if there is a film. I know some small bulbs have what Seth referred to as "an orange condom" over them to make the color. not sure which is going to be correct to change the gauge's color, but it's either a flim on the backside of the face, or 'condoms' on the bulbs.

Alright, a little quick cars 101. Tach = tells how many RPM's your engine is running. Speedometer = tells how many MPH you're going. Since you probably want both of them, just say the gauge cluster as a blanket statement so we're not confused and don't spend a page and a half trying to figure out what you mean. It makes things easier for all of us.
Jchiasson

If it tells you your speed it is not a tach, it is a speedometer!
If you don't want to change the faceplate (which is the only way of changing the colour I know of), and you already know you can't change the bulbs......
WHAT IN GODS NAME DO YOU EXPECT TO GET FOR AN ANSWER HERE?

you could of saved a world of trouble by saying that to begin with.
Clear Needles. 2-Ways. 1 - Find needles from another car that will work and look good. No, no one knows of any clear ones that work. 2 - Make your own.

Wow that would have saved some time here.
Also, a tach does not tell you how fast you are going.

Sky, your post just went down hill, now that we know what you want our imaiginations cannot go hog wild.
Anyways, now that we know know what you want and no one has tried it, we cannot seem to give you the answer you want.
With that said, clusters for a 96 should be cheap and easy to come by especially if you don't care if they work or not. Place an ad on here in parts wanted . Take it apart and see what gives it color and we may be able to help you change it. Maybe an earlier GA such as 92 may be a different color or a cavalier. Those parts would be my best guess as to what would work since they are similiar cars.
then please post a how to if it works for you. Remember to take plenty of pictures.

Someone did something with their gauge needles. Sanded off the orange and changed the color. Maybe Gus.

You don't need to use needles from other cars to make them clear or change colors... plenty of people have done so use one of these 2 techniques:
1. sand paint off back of needle
2. use acetone on a Q-tip to remove the paint from the back of the needles. (I would use this method if you want them clear, as the sanding will require more work to fine sand / buff to remove the scratches on the rear)
The needles will be clear then... either paint your color of choice on the rear, or use tiny LED's (intelliglow needle kits, etc.)
A word of warning though - once you remove the needles on a pre-99, there's no easy way to re-install them with the same accuracy. In other words, there's a chance of breaking the cluster and/or problems like running out of gas, etc. I have a second set of needles I was going to paint and install on my cluster, but I don't want to risk it. :(
