Hey everyone.
I'm an owener of a 95 GA SE V6 with the 4T60E transmission.
It has about 260,000km's on it (about 200,000 miles).
The tansmission, for that it's worth, feels amazing. It shifts smoothly,it doesn't slip, and over all, it hasn't given me any problems except for a leak I just had fixxed.

Soon I'll be adding more power, how much exactly, I'm not sure.
As a soon to be welding student, I figured I could save a lot of money and make many of the parts myself(and earn extra credit)-likes headers, exaust, possibly even a full inatake for it. All in all, I think between 20-30hp maybe at the high end of expectation is what I think I might gain. Plus I might even make a custom trans pan for it that'll help with cooling of the trans oil a bit.

I've heard that the GM 4T60E are very durable transmissions, so with power gains as moderate as that, combined with the age of my trans and the distance on it, could there be any possible problems that would occur from the extra power going to the transmission?

If someone can let me know what they think, and possible steps I could take to minimise or even negate any ill affects that might occur, that'd be awesome.

Thanxs for your time.

Chris.

Durable? Hardly.

Itll hold up for what your doing. If you plan on forced induction, forget it. Milzy Motorsports will soon have a trans available but I think it's only for the 99+ cars.....it might work in yours Im not sure.....someone else can verify that one....either way though, its gonna be expensive as hell -around 4 grand.

A five-speed swap is possible. Its not exactly easy either, but its a lot cheaper. Don't worry though, at this point theres no need. For what you have planned, if you do it right, I think 30 HP will be good. Milzy's 3400 (3.4, very similar engine to yours) headers add a proven 18 horse power.....I think an extra 12 horses for cat back and intake sounds about right too.....

Like I said, for all your doing, the tranny should be just fine.....dont nuetral drop it.....

For the bolt-on "flow" mods you're planning, I don't think you'll need to worry about the trans much more than it's normal aging.
