Hey i just got some money and I feel like tinkering around with some mods. I've always wanted gauges and thats what ill probly go with. I was deciding which ones i wanted for a while and and idea came to me when i was at a friends house. He has this big stereo sittin in his living room with a db gauge. I saw it and i thought it would be awesome to have one in a car. I doubt it's very accurate but i think it would just be cool to have the meter go up as the music goes up in my car. I can't find a thing like it and i was kind of surprised cuz i see so many for different applications, just none for cars. Has anyone ever heard of these? Thanks.

i think panosonic radios (hu), i know my pioneer hu have them built into their displays if you choose that particular setting...
if you cant find them online, then i guess you could get a real one, and modify the display to fit it where ever you wanted it.

Alex, what I think your writing about...years ago when I was much younger...and I mean much!...They didn't have the car stereo's like they have today and equalizers were additional equipment to add to your stereo ( I'm talking about stereo's with only am/fm cassette
player). A equalizer I had actually had mini ball lights that went up and down with the different type of sound input. I also remember Radio Shack used to sell sound/light box's like want your writing about.

a few brands still make EQ's, but most are designed to go along with particular amps.
So you're hunting for a gauge to measure DB's? quite interesting, i'd say try ebay, might be the best bet.

Yea, those were the days!!! The wiring projects to hook all that up...WOW! I remember when they didn't have subs, power amp's,heavy duty wire-way,etc. I used to get the biggest house speakers I could find and put them in my ride. And even had stereo headphones hooked into a jack so you could listen to music in that mode! Radio Shack back when was the only place to find certain items to do auto stereo misc. stuff,I spent alot of time their!

Their are a few real dB (SPL meters) available that have gauges that will fit in an A Pillar gauge pod. Just a fair warning...They are pretty pricey, and usless in my opinion if your not constantly compeating in some sort of dB Drag league and swapping equipment constantly looking for the slightest increase.
Usless for they typical car audio enthusiast.

If you're competing, the only meter you want is a Termlab.

yes.. any meter that going to be perminantly mounted in the car isn'tgoing to be as acurate as a termlab, but I don't think thats the issue here.
