i want moving headlights, you know, like you take a turn and they move with the wheel.

i still want to do that... BUT.

i thought of something else i'd like that i havent heard of anyone doing.

electronically adjusted headlights.

if your beam is shooting too far high, then you can adjust it from inside your car.

i like the idea.

how about anyone else?

thought about maybe modding power mirrors to do the job?

All the power too ya but I don't think that will work with the GA headlight design. BTW, is it legal to fool around with your headlight adjustment as you say. I mean even in low beam it may appear to be in high beam to oncoming vehicles if you leave them adjusted too high. Maybe you could do something with your foglights to have them turn with the wheel but I don't really see the point unless you just want to do something different. Good luck with whatever you decide on.

I dunno if you will have the room to pull that off.

nope, i made sure they werent blinding on coming traffic. how wouldnt it work witht he ga headlight design? i wanted to do the turning headlights for turns. have you ever been driving at night and took a turn and been thinking, i wish my headlights would show more of the turn?

some of the higher end vehicles have turning headlights on them

well if i do the electronic adjustables then i'll prob have to gut the headlight holders. not sure yet though. im just throwing the idea around and seeing what some others think.

On my rallye cars, I would have a pair of fogs that were crosseyed. When there was a tight corner, hit the switch and it would light up both sides. I also had another pair of fogs and two pair of driving lights pointing straight ahead.

The movable ones would be too slow, they don't start lighting up the turn until you enter it. By then I was looking for the exit.

How about headlights that followed your eye movement?

As for being original, I think a luxury car company already does that with the turning... But still a great idea!!! If you get it working, I'd be intereted in doing it!

Now that's a great idea... I'm sure with technology, they'll have something like that if they haven't started creating it yet... I wonder if you'd have to wear sensitive eye contacts that detect retinal movement that sends a signal to the headlights. Haha.

Anyways, what I was thinking is that that'll be a problem... Your eyes can move pretty quickly, and well... Imagine how fast those headlights would have to move to keep up with your eyes... Great idea though if you can make it happen.

well that wasnt really the mod i was turning more towards lol. my first will be the adjustable headlights, and then the auto turning headlights. i've seen the turning, but not the electric adjusting ones

that's what I was thinking......

you would have to cut part of the header panel and get a motor system that only does that when you are at a reasonable speed, you don't want your headlights moving with every turn of the wheel, it wouldn't look good in a parking lot.

linear actuators would work, I don't know that much about them like if you can stop them in mid stroke, that is what you would want, so one per headlight, the luxury cars that do it actually don't move the housing, its the projector lamp in side that moves.

right, i thought about that. i want the adjustables done first then i'll look into that :)

lexus makes a car where the headlights automatically turn up to 15* when going around a turn

The STi has a mounted joystick that you can aim with from inside the car

Okay, not to be a fuddy duddy but why do the headlights need to turn? Wouldn't it be simpler and better to have a stationary light that illuminates corners? I've seen many Cadies with them and I think my mom's Buick even has it, a bright yellow side marker that comes on with the turn signal but doesn't blink. The Caddies have a white one though and it's much brighter, but it's still a side corner marker.

I just think turning headlights wouldn't illuminate well enough or fast enough to make the difference. In a turn you need to see where you are going BEFORE turning after all. Of course good fogs mounted further ahead than our poor factory units illuminate all sides in a safe manner, but that's for another post.

I've actually wanted to put low powered yellow lights on the side of my car, like halfway down on each side. On dark roads it'd be nice to see beside you sometimes.

about the turn signals, i was going to make my own and put it into my mirrors. i even considered buying carbon fiber ones made with the z3 style.

but i think the turning headlights are a good idea, especially when your driving around corners alot in the country, but thats just my opinion.

Why would they need to turn though? they aren't going to be able to turn enough or fast enough to illuminate where you are going. That's why I mentioned putting lights on the side somewhere. Only there's really no where to mount them on a GA.

the ones on the lexus turn as your wheel turns so you can see around the corners for animals and dumbass people who walk at night in ninja outfits

sk8rjess

haha ninja outfits.

as Sweet98GA said,
they turn with your wheels

Don't forget the stoners that like to jump out in front of cars after emo concerts... I avoid downtown like the plauge at night for this reason.

ha we dont have the stoner problem too much, just mostly the stupid drunks that think their body is bigger then a car or that they can run faster then the car hahaha.

I'm not too concerned about the headlights turning, but I'd love to be able to adjust the headlights from inside the car, for instance I have spent the last few days every day tinkering each night with the lights just a little more trying to get them exactly where I want them. It'd be nice to just go down a dark straight road and aim them where I want and leave them, its a bit hard to do in the driveway.

On a side note, Lexus wasn't that original either, the 1948 Tucker Torpedo had a third headlight in the center of the hood that turned with the wheels, at least until it was realized that that was illegal at the time

ok, why don't you do what i began doing. go to a junkyard and yank a set of those lexus headlights, and retro them into your system, and then figure out the wiring. it's going to take a whole lot of work, but very interesting if you make it work. just remember you're also going to need to do the hid conversion with it, plus figure out how to hook this into your steering. i'm not even sure if our cars have a sensor to figure out which way the wheels are turning.

nah, i just retro'd dual projectors into my headlights, i'm not wanting to do it again right away lol. let me know how yours turns out?

I like the misaimed driving light idea. You add some driving lights to the front and you could aim one into each side of the car. You could have them both come on for country driving or have a left off right toggle switch for when you're driving in more populated areas. That way your headlights stay legal. Buying Lexus headlights would be expensive.

i was thinking the same thing about the price, plus it'd be hard to find a decent car in a local junkyard, the best i've seen is a 96 prelude.

guess i'm lucky rich people can't drive around here  the biggest projector seller on eBay is from my area, he rips them out daily.
