View Full Version : Brakes: Cross-drilled, SLotted, or both?

Hey there.
Amongst the things I'll soon be doing to my car in the near future, replacing the brakes are at the top of the list.
I found a site that provides not only stock parts, but high performance replacement parts for my car.
Under the brake section, they have a large selection of cross-drilled, slotted, and cross-drilled/slotted rotors.
I've heard some people say go with one or the other, while some people say go with both.
So I was wondering which truly is better.
Is it better to just have the cross-drilled? Or just the slotted? Or the cross-drilled/slotted rotors?

If you all can give me your opinion and help me decide, that'd be awesome.

Thanxs for your help.

Chris

I have the cross-drilled/slotted rotors because I like how they look through the wheels. I am easy on brakes and take them off in the fall along with the summer tires.

I just put crossdrilled/slotted rotors on the Jeep and I have no complaints as of yet.

well, from what i've read in here and heard from ppl i know, most the problems (cracking and such) seems to happen with ppl using the cross-drilled rotors for auto-cross. me, i dont plan on auto-crossing my car. maybe a few runs now and then at the drag strip.i jus want better stopping power on the street when Joe Snuffy forgets how to drive.

cross-drilling is useless. Think about it, how does this help the brakes at all. Slotting is usefull because it goes with the rotation of the wheel, as cross drilling goes through the rotor and couteracts the rotating motion of the wheel. If you like the look of them great, but they are more money.

I got mine for $200, all 4 rotors and 4 new pads.

R1concepts, check ebay

They are just eye candy anyways, there is no point in having either, they just look cool.

Okay.
From what I gather, cross drilled, slotted, and cross/drilled are all great for your car. But problems can arise if I go auto-crossing with it, which I won't...
Okay, thank you very much for all your help.
You guys have truly helped me alot.

If you're looking for better stopping power, a Corvette brake swap has been done very successfully. Do a search and it gives you part numbers and a brief how-to... a very well authored thread.
