Wondering if it's be suggested before to put the FAQ as stickies in the appropriate forum.
To me the Newbie / FAQ forum is more seen as an area for site rules and such not the vehicle in general. Like, "How do I use smilies....What are Chain notes..." and the like.
As an example when I first joined the GAOC I went to the different areas expecting stuff related to the areas to be with in the forum. I have only been here since Sept 06 but man these guys/gals that join and their first post is "How do I get 1000 horsepower out of this engine..." is annoying as hell.

Just as an example the FAQ for "FAQ: GM Platform Information" could be included in the "Grand Am Buyer's Guide/General Information" forum.

I agree, i hate to say this, but the threads that get started day after day after day about the same exact thing we have all talked about for the last 6+ years over and over and over again need to be stopped by the mods, as in closed/locked, just close/lock it.

I like the idea... but in a modified form. What if we left the current FAQ's in that section (a central repository of FAQ's)... then linked to them (the relevant ones) in a stickied thread in each section? The info would be available both ways.

Then we'll have the anti-discussion Nazi-style moderation found on another particular forum. So what if it's been discussed before... otherwise might as well close the entire site and make it a database instead.

Didn't I already do this in several sections?

I don't agree with instantly locking any thread that is relevant to a FAQ thread. The FAQs can become outdated, and sometimes situational stuff makes the answer to a question completely different. I do agree that alot of the time there are questions where the best answer would come directly from the FAQ, but it isn't always the case.

... yes you did :)

I still like the idea and don't believe simply by dividing the existing FAQs into their respective Sections would cause any degree of problems ... having them in 'two places' would certainly satisfy everyone but it reminds me of someone repeating themselves (kind of a ironic considering what we are talking about, don't you think  :D) ... anyway, no matter, I was thinking any specific FAQ might have a higher opportunity to be seen if it was in the relevant Section ... it would also allow for the removal of one Section ... like I said though, no real 'right' answer to this :)

I was only replying to Coupe's idea of closing/locking any topic that has been previously discussed.

Have to agree with you here.
I actually read Shawns' post stating that he had done this in some sections. Then I actually went to the forum that the post that caused me to right this was in, and lo and behold, there they were. Not sure if they were there before the post in question, but they're there now!

The problem lies with FAQ entries that fit in more than one section. :)

haha No worries. The FAQ posts have been there for well over a year, but with the over abundance of stickies in some sections, they can get buried.
