Hey guys,
My trans has been a bit on the fritz lately, started slipping pretty badly, and the fluid in it is really burnt.
I want to change the fluid in the trans, but without getting it flushed somewhere, i wanted to get at least most of the fluid from the torque converter. I have looked on google and found this. It explains stuff pretty well and I thought maybe some of the people here could use the info. Here you go.

let me know what you guys think

Thanks, swapped!
That's a good procedure for a DIY complete tranny flush.
And Amsoil makes good products.

yeah I read this this morning and it seems to be a relative easy idea with some help.

I did this today. it went awesome. the fluid in the trans was super bad, it was almost as dark as used motor oil. So basically here is what I did.
-I loosened the pan and drained most of the fluid
-dropped pan and poured out rest of fluid
-removed old filter
-put in new filter
-cleaned out pan and gaskek
-put pan back on and filled trans with about 6 quarts
-removed the lower of the two lines that attach to the trans
-put line in gallon jug and had friend start the car
-drained about 1 gallon while friend kept pouring fluid in
-turned engine off
-got another gallon jug and repeated process
i got out just over 2 gallons total
towards the end of the second gallon the fluid went from a nasty brown to a nice red
-put the line back in the transmission
-started the car back up and shifted thru the gears
-checked fluid level and topped it off with about a quart
took it for a spin and it shift a little better
all in all i used about 13-14 quarts of fluid

The trans takes 13L of fluid...dunnoh exactly how much a quart is so I hoped you topped her off well.

How do you refill the transmission? I have a 2000 SE V6, and there is a small red cap that is buried underneath the engine, but on top of the transmission. I have been having issues with going uphill where the transmission goes from the top gear and back down a gear several times. Kind of a surging feeling. If I shift down, the problem goes away. I have 108k miles on the car, and haven't had the fluid changed. It's $130 to have it flushed at one of the local oil places.

you have to remove the air box to reach it easily, once you remove the cap a long funnel can assist in getting the new fluid in there.
