Hi I'm new to this forum and I have been looking threads for sometimes but I have a big problem with my car. (Sorry for my bad english, it's not my first language)

I have a Grand am 92 with a quad OHC engine. My fuel pump and injector fuse sometimes blows up. It can be 1 week without blowing but it can blow anytime. Sometimes it blows even when the car is on idle. Me and my father opened all the wires but it seems that there is no shortcut or grounded wire. We check the relays too but it seems to be good. The only thing I can think of is that the fuel pump may sometimes stop turning and the current would go high enough to blow up the fuse. Anyway if you guys have any idea I would be really grateful.

It will be hard to find the source of the problem if it occurs intermittently, but it sounds like you are on the right track with the fuel pump.

Here is a diagram of the fuel pump circuit - it may be useful in your troubleshooting:

Notice there is a fuel pump prime connector - this is the red wire near the bottom drivers-side corner of the wideshield. Make sure this connector is not touching any metal.

Also double-check that you are using the correct fuse - it should be a 20 amp fuse (yellow).

Thank you for you help, as for my fuse I always use 20 amp or more ( sometimes a circuit breaker of 25 amp). And for the fuel pump prime connector it seems to be fine. One of the only thing I can think of except for the fuel pump may be that the wires that goes under the engine for the inj might be grounded be this is a guess, I really don't know. For now what we did is to put some fuses at some different point, one for the fuel pump and one for the inj, both of 10 amps. If anybody had already this problem some help could really come in handy.

Mat, Matt95GT-follow his directions. Then still don't leave out a relay, I've found out thru trial and error what looks good on the outside might still be bad. I've had a fuseable link that looked good on the outside but with further investigation it was no good. Also, check that all wires are grounded correctly-take the fuel pump connector and clean it " CRC Lectra-Motive,Electric Parts Cleaner" found at most auto stores.
