I keep reading that platinum spark plugs dont need to be changed as often as regular spark plugs so I was wondering if anyone knows what spark plugs come stock on the 03 grand am se2 v6. I know its kind of a off question but thanks for any help.

They are platinum and the recommended change interval is 100k km (about 60k miles I guess).

100% correct AC Delco Platinums. I changed mine at about 70,000 miles and they didn't look too bad. I had pulled them out so I changed them anyway, but yea typically anywhere from 60,000 to 75,000 depending on how you drive.

There are two kinds of platinum plugs:
* Single platinum, which have a tiny spot of platinum on the center elctrode. This is ACDelco "RapidFire."
and,
* Double platinum, which are the same as single PLUS they have an additional tiny spot of platinum on the ground electrode (the 'finger-type side electrode). This is ACDelco "Professional Platinum".
With ignitions such as the GA V6, which have a 'waste-spark' at the top of every exhaust stroke of the cylinder, double-platinums are recommended for longer life.
The waste-spark travels in the opposite direction to the main spark, and tends to erode the ground electrode.
Having a tiny spot of high-strength, high-heat-resistant platinum on the ground electrode extends its life.
Either plug is great for the GA V6, but Professional Platinums will last longer than RapidFires.
