We are noticing a sharp increase in the number of posts from the membership about threads being in the wrong section, or telling people to search without presenting any information of any value.
This has got to stop!
Telling someone their thread is in the wrong section is doing nothing to help the situation, as the original poster can not move their thread. All this is doing is prompting members to post again in the correct section: cross-posting. This leads to even more work for our moderation team.
Instead of posting that a thread is in the wrong section, please use the ‘Report this post to a moderator’ link and request that the thread be moved. Our moderators will take care of it from there.
Likewise, stating that a member should search in response to a common question is not helping either. Now, when people do search, they have to sort through countless threads where ‘Please search’ is the only reply. Instead of flatly telling a member to search, present links that will help answer their question.
If you are too lazy or busy to do a quick search for them, or to provide some meaningful information for the thread, please don’t bother responding at all. There have been several instances of new members getting turned off the site because of very rude responses from some of our veteran members to simple questions.
We appreciate that most of you are only trying to help. However what some of you are doing is actually the opposite, and creating more work and headaches for the moderation team.
Starting now, any ‘Vigilante Moderation’ posts will be removed. Repeat offenders or those who are rude about it will be warned accordingly.
Thank you for your help and co-operation,
-Shawn, Kelly & Matt
