springs are designed for 92-98, but i'm not sure about shocks and struts

Actually springs are designed for 95 - 98 and 85 - 94 (i think)
Shocks and struts are also different between 95 - 98 and 92 - 94
I am sure that the front or rear between 92 - 98 is the same

Incorrect. Springs run the same on grand ams from 85-94. The suspension was changed in 95. So the 95-98 years have a different set of springs.
So to answer your question, no you could not buy them for the 94 then swap them to a 96 in the future.

huh, well I guess i be mis informed...
so its just the 92-98 body styles being just about the same (minus front end) then

No, they will not.
Rear suspension changed between 94 and 95. Parts wise, suspension components are the same between 92-94 and 95-98.
