Anyone on here ever painted their factory wheels a different color? I have recently thought about having mine painted black. Just wondering what your opinions would be in doing this. The wheels I have are pictured below. Thanks. Later, QD.

I thought those were hubcaps....??
anyways, yea theres a couple people around here who have painted the factory wheels...I myself was considering it. It would be best get powder coating done on an actual rim....but high quality spray paint and clear coat (or whatever finish you want) should do fine for your wheels IMO.....
if I was on a budget, Id do it.....come to think of it, powder coatingisnt that expensive I dont think...but whatever its up to you...
:penny:
cheers

i think powder coating by area is variant, buy on average is like 40-50 per rim. i know that i was considering the same thing with my 16 spoke oems that came with the car, but i would want black or gunmetal with a gunmetal or black lip

Hmmmm with those rims QD I would see it a problem because of the plastic dust cap.
Chris, those are the alloy rims that came on SE's for the whole life of the 5th gen IIRC. I HATED them thats why I moved up to 18s. lol

I don't like them either, bballr. I think they're ugly as hail. I would like to get the GT 5 spoke wheels and do them in black. I don't 18's because, being a West Coaster, anything over 15" just doesn't look good. To me. But for this car, 13 or 14's would definitely not look good. Later, QD.

There is a line of paint for painting wheels. Buy some and give it a try. Mask it off and do a two tone. If you don't like it, re-paint them silver. You don't have much to lose.
I wouldn't powder coat them because it would be a hassle taking them off, dis-mounting the tire, coating, remounting, new stems, balance, etc.
Keep watching the "For Sale" sections. People sell rims and tires all the time. The 16's and 17's are pretty reasonable.

I think you should mask a wheel completely and then paint the tape in the color you want. If you only paint the center section, it might look ok in black, white or gold.
When you find a color you like, you can plan on doing all the wheels. If you are good at a paint program, you can do it electronically.
If you do want to go ahead, I'd buy a powdercoating kit and an old electric oven to do myself.
You said you don't like big but remember you cannot go smaller than 15"

On this car, I wouldn't think of going below a 15" wheel. I would do no more than a 17, but I think I ma going to either find a set of factory 16" GT rims or a nice set of aftermarket 16 or 17" basic 5 star. Later, QD.
