Nite SHade Tails Completed Tonight

Couple of questions;
1. did you have to order it or can you buy it locally in NB?
2. how many coats did you apply and are you gonna go darker
3. have you checked local laws to find out if this is something they can fine you for?

The 2nd picture is the final project... they are dark but the flash kept setting off the reflectors and thats 3 coats that made them dark in the 2nd pic... I bought them through my fathers Garage ... he is able to purchase them through a warehouse company in Ontario.. problem is not just anybody can call and order things from them... Hes a business owner and therefor has an account through them... Youre able to use tailight covers here in NB.. I had asked a couple cops in charlotte county and Rothesay.. they said there are no problems so long as you take them off at night.. I tried the lights after I had painted them and plenty of light shines through and reflectors still glow therefor I know I will be ok.. this was a last resort as no company make the tailight covers for my GA.. .I could only find them for a firebird and Trans Am...

1st pic is before (left) and after (right)... the flash of the camera and the lighting kept setting the reflectors off.. the 2nd is on the floor with main lights off which made a difference.. 3rd is on the floor with lights on and you can see that the reflectors are still functionable...

Im going to put the tails back in the car tomorrow... and I will get another picture to put on here.. I also painted the 3rd brake light rather than getting a 3rd brake light decal to keep the black theme going in the rear as well as the front.. Black racing stripes are coming the weekend after easter weekend hopefully... Hopefully before the Moncton meet... I am also getting the 2 front windows tinted this week coming :)

Hate to tell you this but expect to get pulled over. Two coats would of been good but with three you are just asking for it IMHO. I only put two coats on mine and they are dark as dark.

Also I would of got some GT tails first.

I dont have a GT for one and am proud of my SE and dont feel the need to convert and make it a wannabe GT.. Instead of using 2 heavy coats... we used about 3 light coats which is most likely equivalent.. I dont see the problem considering people have them black as black can be here in NB and have no problems on any vehicles... They really only bother people that are out raising hell in their vehicles which I am not..

Having GT tails does not mean that you have a wannabe GT. I HATED those stupid lines in the tails. I was just letting you know it might be too dark and might want to invest some high output bulbs. The stock ones are rather ineffective when trying to light up through the tint especially during the day.

Yeah well thats certainly a possibility... I was considering high output bulbs anyhow because I want them in the headlights as well... I also have a bulb burnt out as of tonight in my 3rd brake light therfor it will have to be replaced so I might as well do them all over anyways.. As far as the lights go themselves... I really liked the lines.. I dont know why But I did.. So that was never an issue.. I just see so many people converting to GT when they have an SE and I get defensive.. sorry.. But thanks for the input :)

Oh and put some clear coat on the night shades as well. Itll give it a glossy look and protect the tint as well. Then hit it up with a few layers of wax to fully protect it.

I was wondering whether or not I should clear them.. DO you have a suggestion as to what type of clear I should use?

I just went and got a super glossy clear from Wal-Mart. Just dont buy the cheap stuff. Spend a few bucks, heck I think the can I bought was like $3.50 but was some high quality stuff that I cant remember now.

Well your 3.50 is probable 20.00 here hahahha.... I dont mind splurging on my car... I will definitely go get some clear tomorrow.. .Is the paint easy to chip at if its not cleared?

yeah well ill probably go to Canadian Tire rather than WalMart although we do have them here in Canada.. Canadian Tire has a good selection of Paints.. Unless I can make it to APM which is a parts store that specializes in paint products before they close in the morning..

I know that the clear seals and protects it and will give it a glossy shine.. Im asking if the paint is easy to chip if its not cleared... I work in a car garage where we paint cars.. im familiar with paint products all though this is my first time dealing with nite shades

I think it wont chip but I dont doubt itll scratch pretty easily.

Again I only put 3 LIGHT coats on.. theyre not as dark as the headlights covers in that pic <----

Yea they look good for sure.

I havent had any trouble during the day but when driving into the sun Ive had my buddy say they are a little dark but my 3rd brake light makes up for the dark ones.

Yeah But I painted my 3rd brake light too eh.. I dont know.. they look pretty bright at night.. I cant see there being a BIG problem.. we'll see in the morning i guess right?

Oh yea at night mine are bright as hell and if it wasnt for the run in the passenger tail you wouldnt even be able to tell they were tinted. During the day is another story.

Yea I got the can too close and it ran. Not really concerned about it too much. In other words really dont want to sand it down and paint it again.

Yeah I figure once i clear coat it tomorrow the cat hair wont be noticed because its real tiny and the only way you notice it is because of the texture... with a clear coat overtop it'll smooth it out and it wont benoticed.. I dont want to repaint them because they came out so even that I wouldnt be able to do it again..

Oh and as far as reverse lights go.. still got the fog light reverse ones on the bottom.. so brakes is really all I gotta worry about and park lights at night which as we just saw probably wont be an issue.. so just brake during the day I gotta see tomorrow.. cant see it being an issue though eh?

The tails look much darker due to my car looking white but still love the look and you can see the lights pretty well.

Yep... Mine arent a whole hell of a lot darker... im on my way to parts store now to get the clear coat... ill spray them and post the pics after they dry :)
