I have a friend in another state who owns a '93 Grand Am (either GT or SE) with the 3300 V6 and the 3-speed auto. And he is wishing to convert his car from an automatic to a manual. I have a couple questions regarding this?

1) Were the 3300-powered Grand Ams available with manuals, or were they all automatics?

2) I know the Getrag HM282 came on a number of J,N, and even some W-bodies. And depending on what engine they were mated to, some had slightly different 1/2 and 4/5 gearing, and a couple different final drives. HM282's from Quad-4 cars are a no-go since they have a different bolt pattern.

So which model of car would be the best donor as far as the gearing goes?

As for 1) the answer is no, they all came with automatics. Only the 3 speed too, some cutlass ciera's had the 4T45 coupled with the 3300 however.

There was another user on these forums who already sucessfully swapped the 5 speed into his car.

he used a flywheel off a 3100 that was machined and balanced to fit the 3300, as well as a 5 speed tranny form a cavalier.

the motor mounts were all custom, but the clutch pedal bolts right in to the factory chasis; there should be nuts welded to the frame already.
