awsome site, im a member. Hids are illegal, as most know. dropping a rebased d2s bulb in a reflector housing thats optics arent made for it causes unsafe glare for others. Retro or bust (still illegal but much better on the eyes)

I think I may be stupid but are Sylvania SilverStars/SilverStar Ultras still halogen and ok? I'm getting confused on if those ultra bright white and blue lights that Sylvania makes for specific models of cars and if they are HID are not. Any explanation is appreciated, sorry if this is nubish, haha.

I dont have the time to explain it to you now but in simple words Sylvania SilverStars/SilverStar Ultras are Halogen and they are not considered HID's

Silverstars and any bulbs that will plug right into your Grand Am's socket is not a true HID. They are halogen bulbs coated to produce a light to simulate HID.

HID (High Intensity Discharge) are special bulbs that use a ballast much like a florecent light does.

Thinking about buying the black housing headlights for my 97 Grand Am and getting the HID Planet's HID pojections kits, reasonably priced. 400 bucks for a kit WITH projectors, not bad. Rather then paying 300 for just bulbs, ballast and harness, you get the projectors as well(a good 200 more sometimes)

Yea but sometimes you get crappy projectors and they just suck at aiming the light. best to pay top notch when it comes to stuff like lighting and tires I say.

I can promise you right now that HID's with black housing headlights SUCK BALLS! I may not have projectors, and that may be the problem, but I really can't drive my car at night in the "woods" anymore... any by woods I mean areas of less population where there arent street lights, or buildings, or anything to light up the road in any way

Im going with a Bi-xenon HID Projector retrofit when time and money permits.

hey... what kind of hid kit do you have?... w/ my blk headlights, the light output from my hids didnt decrease... and if it did... maybe the slightest bit where its not even noticable...and i dont see why it would decrease light output since the reflecor inside the headlight is not black...

you might want to do a little more research with that. noone has done it before because space is an issue. i think the only bi-xenon projector that might be able to fit is the FX35/45
GL tho :D

It's Dustin's old kit. He got it from HIDStore.com I think they are 6000k

It also could be that they are not angled properly as I have not adjusted them since I put them in so once I get the car back when the charger is done i'll have to revisit this thread and update my situation

on my blk headlights it was easier and nice to adjust the aim of the headlight opposed to the oem ones... also it threw out the beam of the headlights alot better then the oem... lol good luck!

Gus you should look into ajusting them. I dont think the headlights are the problem cause the part that reflects the light it still the chrome color as it is on the stock headlights. The only thing that is black is the parts that dont have anything to do with reflecting light out, like the bottom of the light.

He's the kinda bastard that blinds me while I drive down the street going to fast to be blinded. I really, really need to get brighter lights. My covers dim my main lights so much, my fogs have to be on to see the road at night. I only want to spend around 100 dollars, so what should I do?

my car had crappy output before projectors, and crappy output after too. lol it was probably the stupid 12000k bulbs i had. i would have bought 6000k bulbs if i had kept the car.

i have silverstar ultras now, and the output is WAY better than stock.

if they only made my fogs in ultras as well...

With proper planning and placement i beleive the RS6/A6 Bi-Xenon ECE Projectors will fit in the housing without issues. I know fitment is the biggest issue and i am in the process of finding a good set of Bi-xenons that will fit.

im not sure if your a member but i believe hidtech tried doing the retrofit with the rs6's and couldnt get them to fir and ended up using the e46/audi tt projector singles. i would love to see it done tho :)

Hmmm. see this is a really difficult situation. Considering i dont want to order a set and see that they dont fit. Maybe i will just go with what has been tried and proven. I will keep the research going though.

theres hidtech.com or illusion-lighting.com i had illusion light doing mine they looked great untill they showed were all http://www.gaownersclub.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_censored.gifed inside but u would of had to cut the metal behind the headlamp to make some room.......

here are some pics of the turn out... http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/3/web/423000-423999/423499_89_full.jpg

and it was no 300 project eaither

i ended up going back to the hid in my stock headlamps, i have been running this setup for 2 years now and i have not once been bugged by the cops, just gotta make sure u aim them down a bit more.

has anyone ever used the HID kits off of OZNIUM.com? I have been looking into for a couple days and deciding whether to go with them or not. Few quick questions since i am not sure and dont feel like spending 250$ without knowing:
They will fit ok with black headlights?
i dont need to rewire the headlights?

For 235 i dont know what to think, cheap and crappy, or are they just coming down in price? From the reviews on the site they sound good but i know how that can go. I see black GAGT, anyone know who that might be?
Thanks!

I have 8K Hid's that came from Oznium and believe me they were well worth it! It's one of my best mods ive done so far. They plug in your stock wiring system so there's no needs to re-wire anything. And they also a direct fit .If you have the extra $235 then i say go for it, you wont be disappointed:)

when it came the paint on the trim was all chipped, and they did not bend the trim enough cuz there was a hole and when they mounted the projector they did not keep in mind that the aiming rods so they would of had to start all over from scratch.....there for i no longer have them, got refunded....
