Ok to start off I didn't have a ECM " engine computer " So I got someone to give me there code off theres so i can get one from the junk yard that will be compatible with my engine. Secondly it turns out that the 2002 grand am didnt come in a 5 speed manual shift. But you see mine does heh heh. Since my engine is in a cavilier body and transmision is as well 5 speed short throw shifter with a 3.4 liter 02 grand am engine.
Problem:
Is there something I have to tell who ever flashes my new computer or will it simply just work. I would think it will be fine flashing it normal but who can tell? Maybe you!!! 8)

I think I missed the question. What are you trying to do?
And actually you could get a 2002 Grand Am with Ecotec & a 5-speed manual.

hmm not sure what that etoc stuff is if you could explain that , but my question is can i get a normal ECM that has been flashed to the vin number of the engine and it will work fine since the transmission may or may not be what was on the grand am 02

You could help us better understand your strange car, and what you're trying to do, if you changed your avatar/profile 'engine description' from "GA 4.3" to "GA 3.4 V6 with Chevy 5-speed manual tranny" (since the GA never came with the 4.3 V6).
Truly, your engine/tranny/chassis is such a bastard that you're virtually on your own.
The Cavalier was sold early-on with the 2.8 60*V6, and 1991-1994 with the 3.1 version.
Never with the 3.4.
Federal law prohibits swapping any engine into a car model that never came from the factory with that engine.
Since pre-'95's were available with the earlier version of this same engine, you can probably get away with your '02 3.4-to-Z24 (assuming it's '02 or older).
I have always understood that no GM 5-spd manual would ever mate to the 3.1/3.4 in fwd application;
We Grand Am owners were thus limited to the 4-spd auto.
Best of luck on this swap.

O heh sorry 3.4 liter 02 grand am engine is what i meant, and it has a 5 speed manual from what car i have no idea heh, Also Its all packed into a 93 cavalier vehicle.
So with that info perhaps you can tell me if the 02 3.4 liter grandam engine computer flashed to it will be ok with this combo.

Oh... I get it now. There is no FWD 3400 + manual in any car, therefore there is no manual 3400 PCM code to flash onto yours.
Short shifter wise... you should be using parts for whatever application the shifter assembly came from.

The '02 3.4's engine-tranny computer is called the PCM Powertrain Control Module.
It's pretty advanced, being an OBD-II system and interfacing with the GA's OTHER computers for body control (lighting, powerlocks) and Antilock Braking System.
I don't know how well it will interface with the stuff in the '93, which had a very crude ECM.
Speedometer, oil and temp gages, and radiator fan come to mind.
I don't know if it matters at all.
Good luck,

The guy i bought it off of just sent me this email regarding the transmission if this helps at all. I am going to look into it but if any of you can help as well that would be great more ideas is always good.
Thanks for the team effort heres the latest scoop!
the transmission thats in the cavalier is the NVT 550 (New Venture) 5 speed its basically a HM-282 (Muncie/Getrag) in a different case.
i think if you had someone with tuneing experience they could get it tuned properly you'd be fine, i had a basic tune setup on it but i'm not a pro at that.
someone who knows how to use tunerpro is whats gonna help fix everything.

How much money did you throw at your car to get a 2002 model engine in a 1993 model car? I see Z24s all the time with the 3400 and 3800SC, but never mixing OBD1 or 1.5 with OBD2.

I didnt hehe a guy i bought it off of did. he did it himself and besides buying the shell he spent around 5 grand on parts paint and what not. I bought the car off him for $2000. Its not a bad deal really, if all else fails i will just buy a trailor and take it on that to a race bring it up and take off, high speeds it never has a problem. just the thought of a z24 93 kickin peoples butts is just great.
